Just a thought..... have you considered life as a LAME and airframe specialist? Painting perhaps?

Otherwise Forkair might be grounded until you are ready to retire:eek:.

Bit hard to get a job done these days! And Chimbu Chuck would be in the same unpainted boat too:uhoh:

J:ok:

First employers for newby's .... err, how about Qantaslink?

G'day all,

I'd ahve to agree with skimmer - Alligator was/is great - max hours, great bunch of blokes and pay and conditions were good.

I think at Geraldton you'd be hard pushed to get into Shines with a bare bones CPL unless you had an instructor rating and IR, Batavia and Geralton air charter would give you a start though. Good flying too out to the abrohlos - gets your short field skills up!!

tinpis 20th May 2008 04:10

Craig still got Alligator?

Mr. Hat 20th May 2008 06:19

Yeah Qantaslink would probably be the pick of the bunch!

Hardys? Well back in the day when supply outstripped demand they would arrogantly ask you to move on and treat you like a pest.

They might be good now though.

There is a lot to be said to those people in the industry that treated people with respect back when pilots were a dime a dozen. Thats why i thought i should post them.

It was nice for someone to take the time to give you some hope when there was little hope getting around.

Any suggestions for companies operating on the east coast, particulary Queensland?:ok:

206greaser 20th May 2008 06:38

Thanks Mr. Hat. I'd heard they were one of the better mobs in Darwin, just wondering what others knew. Any operator that won't require me to move back to the middle of friggin nowhere appeals to me right now! I reckon my time in dry zones is done!

Cheers.

Mr. Hat 20th May 2008 07:30

East Coast, was not really a 1st job sort of spot. But having said that i hardly know all the operators there. I'm sure there would be some outstanding ones - the hard bit is finding them.

Sudholz was the best i knew of in Qld. However, again maybe not a fresh CPL job unless you really sold yourself or had other skills such as instructing. Much the case with GAS as well.

206greaser my info might be outdated and they might actually be very good. I'm just saying that back in the day certain companies treated pilots particulalrly well when they could easily have done what everyone else was doing.

In those days just to get the record straight the majority of the operators treated newbies like a pest and not only hardys.

From a different point of view another good job was Stanbroke. Nicknamed "staybroke" it wasn't the best conditions or lifestyle if you know what i mean, but by gee you'd learn how to fly and get plenty of hours and life lessons.

Second or third job top jobs

Copy, and understood MR. Hat, cheers :ok:

I called KFS, spoke with Mr DP. He had some massive hour requirements. A few years ago though, and i wouldn't be surprised if they had dropped a bit. Everyone else's have!

Cheers

Islander Jock 20th May 2008 08:07

KFS' hour requirements are driven by their primary customer (RioTinto) for whom they probably do the bulk of their flying. But if you can get a start there, I couldn't think of a better outfit in the NW to be with.:ok:

Johnny_56 21st May 2008 07:28

tinpis,

old owners sold alligator last year

Green gorilla 21st May 2008 08:00

Pomypilot 21st May 2008 08:20

Tinpis,

Rob Kendrick bought Alligators, he used to own Alert aviation back at YPJT. Great bloke and very fair to his staff.:D:ok:

Pomypilot 21st May 2008 08:46

Green Gorilla,

Do you know of achap named Chris Nord? I heard he was working at KFS. I would really like to speak to him.! Great friend.

DUXNUTZ 21st May 2008 18:05

Chartair paid the award back when it wasn't cool to do so. Also adherence to Flt and duty regs was quite impressive. :ok:

position & hold 22nd May 2008 01:00

Unfortunately Stanbroke sold nearly all the fixed wing fleet after the takeover a few years ago, i believe they only kept one or two.

Hardy's used to want 1000+ hours, but that's probably dropped now. Good progression onto the twins and metro's, i think the pay is still fulltime and above award too.

Bigglesx 22nd May 2008 07:51

For the freshly minted cpl who has initial twin, nvfr, but no CIR, whom might they pursue that could give them a start and could possibly end up leading to in house type training for the CIR aswell?

Green gorilla 22nd May 2008 08:48

Pomypilot dont know the guy how long was he in Karratha for.

Pomypilot 23rd May 2008 07:24

G'day Mate,

No, sorry I do not know how long he was/is flying at KFS. I have not seen him since the good ol days at YPJT in 02/03. Would love to catch up with the old boy as not had a beer with him for a long while now.:}:ok:

Cheers Mate.
