HSC Maths & Physics Course
 

Folks, Need advice re: a recommended course to achieve these subjects. Any reasonable advice gladly received.

why do you want to do physics ??? you dont need it for any of the airlines.........

Should have been MATHS & ENGLISH

I'm not sure the 6 month uni prep course counts for anything even if you do maths and English. I did it waay back in 1996 and even went to uni for a year doing BSc Aviation but it seems it counts for nothing (I dont have HSC maths or english either). Basically from what i can gather, those in the HR departments upon seeing your resume that doesn't include HSC just bin it with no further correspondence.

I would recommend a TAFE course. Takes longer than 6 months though. I'm currently loking at this option.

Any better ideas would be most welcome.

I needed to re-do the HSC 2 Unit maths and physics whilst I was completing my Aviation degree, to get better marks (at the time was thinking of joining the military).

I did some distance ed courses thru Central Queensland University (CQU)called Transition Maths I and II, and Intro Physics which I was able to get resognised as being equivalent to first yr maths and physics at University level, and they were counted as subjects towards my degree.

They weren't that expensive either, but luckily I was able to get a scholarship thru CQU that paid for them!

They were self paced also, so no time limits, and you only had to sit an exam at the end if you wanted to be able to claim credit for the subjects at university, or you needed to present a pass to someone like a military selection board. If you are just looking to brush up, then you just did end of subject tests that you posted to them, and they posted you back your results.

I am doing the Charles Darwin Uni Tertiary Enabling Program at the moment. A super friendly *****er put me on to it. There have been quite a number of *****ers who have done it with pretty good results. I have been told that the major airlines will accept it. Like any course (HSC, TEP etc.) only those students who get competitive results will be chosen by airlines for interviews. Just getting a pass won't give you an automatic ticket in the door.

The external course suits me as I can do the work and exams when I get a chance between work etc. One bit of free advice though: make sure you do a little bit of study every day, if you get behind it can be really hard to catch up!

The point, Lady Luck, is that many employers require prospective employees to have year 12 (or equivalent) passes in certain subjects. This may well be (and frequently is) in addition to any licence requirements.

Even if you think they are pointless, an employer is free to stipulate. If they won't look at your CV without a Y12 pass in one-handed clapping, and you want to work there, you'd better find an appropriate class.

Turns out that most sharp-end aviation employers want Y12 passes in maths and English. So if you want to be considered by them, that's what you have to have. If you don't want to do the course, you are free to look for an employer which does not stipulate them as a requirement.
