Jets For Skippers?

737-400/500s for Skippers? Heard this one last week from a Skippers driver, with feasibility studies being carried out? Anyone know anymore?

Thought E-Jets or a rear engined T tail would be more practical for the dirt strips?

Any truth?

Capn Bloggs 19th Feb 2008 02:11

Dirt strips? You're joking, aren't you? With the price of Fe increasing by 65%, do you really think anybody would worry about a few mill for a nice long section of tar to land on?

Gravel kit on a Jungle Jet. I'd like to see that...

I wonder what the PCN of well-compacted dirt is...

Green gorilla 19th Feb 2008 02:16

Like to see that another carrot I think they would hire drivers from outside the company.

Do Skippers have enough pilots (experienced) for this sort of expansion?

Led Zep 19th Feb 2008 02:57

"We'll never get jets."

Did I spy a jungle jet on their ramp yesterday?!

Probably SkyAirworld's RIO "spare" (for when all hell breaks loose at NJS) moved to a cheaper parking lot.

lemel 19th Feb 2008 03:48

mate i will believe it when i see it. actually i still wont believe it.

they are struggling for pilots like you wouldnt believe. until that place starts paying better and they get rid of all the politics (ie make it pleasent to work there) things wont change. all of the senior guys at the company i am at now got offered jobs with skippers and all of them turned the jobs down and went else where.

Then there's the minor matter of quietly slipping 737's onto the AOC without CASA noticing. Ozjet announced 737-300's 6 months ago, for a Trans Tasman operation and Norfolk Island service. They haven't succeeded, even though it's not much of a step up from 200's. A turboprop operator like Skippers would need at least a year if they started yesterday. Would the opposition stand idly by and not move to plug any gaps in the market? Would they hell.

Metro FO to "73 checkie" in 6 months!

bbbbbbbbbbbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzbbbbbbbbbbbbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzz z

Skystar320 19th Feb 2008 04:40

Jets will never be an option for Skippers.

Last time I heard it they were concentrating on the Dash 8-100/200/300 fleet mix and getting rid of the metro's/braz's

Dont you love it when pilots say things like this and stiring everyone up!

aileron_69 19th Feb 2008 04:48

One of those "wouldnt believe the rumour if I hadnt started it myself" type scenarios methinks.

vee tail 19th Feb 2008 06:42

Jets

Jets !! no chance.

Flight idle flat notice you have just joined ie first post and feb member.

That wouldn't be you shed dog tosser is it with the ole "rumour has it that " comment.:ouch:

flightidleflat 19th Feb 2008 07:13

Shed dog tosser? I understand the questioning of my credibility with only a few posts.....but this is a rumour network isn't it?

Jets for skippers is something that's been floating around for a while, which i'm sure most of you know....but yesterday was the first i'd heard of a specific type, and any real substantiation of the rumour from someone within the company. I too am skeptical, hence raising it here.

Adding more fuel to the fire, there was also talk that they may be exploring the Corporate charter world, looking into bizjets to transport the mining executives.....I look forward to reading the reactions on that one!

Mecarsa Bitrusty 19th Feb 2008 08:35

F#%K, I did not realise it was April 1st, you guys nearly had me there! That’s some funny ****, skippers, Jets! Not in anyone’s lifetime!!!! :ugh:

Shed Dog Tosser 19th Feb 2008 08:46

Vee Tail, did you miss me ?.

Apparently (:)) and rumour has it, I do not know nor care.

But, i'd be suprised, no, really i would be.

Jets !! no chance.
Having trouble crewing present work load, perhaps :} experience levels rapidly dropping, sure CASA would love to sign off on bigger aircraft, not.

Lefthanded_Rock_Thrower 19th Feb 2008 09:43

FIF,

I'm with V-tail on this, no chance.

A very vast majority of their work is into and out of dirt strips, corporate jet you say ?.
