Sounds like a Tui's ad!!

Any scuttlebut on the airshow at Hamilton in March?? I've read the brochures :yuk: and heard some rumours...but is it actually going to happen??:confused::confused:

Yep, Tui would run a better show, and the mailer we received was cringe material.

Article in local weekly paper a week or two ago went on about the organiser of said show still needing to obtain consents from local council.

Seems to me he has left his run a bit late on this score. Apparently he needs agreement from all occupiers at airport. So far he hasn't kept them in the loop as to the effect that airshow will have on their operations, so I don't see him getting agreement from them in a hurry. From what I have heard there isn't a lot of support/sympathy around the airfield for the show because of the way promoter has gone about things.

If the show is to be run as originally intended and requires the associated consents from the authorities my bet is he won't get the required consents in time.

Also hear that the US jet formation aerobatic team are not coming, probably like a lot of the other attractions that were advertised, their appearance wasn't confirmed before the advertising was launched with them on it. Have to wonder what else isn't going to be there.

Pity, it would be nice to see a good airshow in the Waikato, but to try and run something like this every year and to try run it at a relatively busy regional airport is stupid.

I thought about going but have decided against it. Haven't heard too much about it apart from the brochure.

Keep us posted on what happens if anyone does go in the end...

Would like to see a half decent airshow at HN (the last one got rained out...could happen anywhere)...but I fear this won't be one...not sure what acts have actually been confirmed.
And as for those brochures:oh::bored::uhoh::confused:

I believe the C17 will be on the apron, whilst the crowd will be on the other side of the runway...you'll have to take a bus to go see it...but at least it should put on a good flying display.

Wonder if the show will have to stop for loading and unloading of passengers on the apron?? Will be a pretty disjointed airshow if that is the case. Can't see how the Red Checkers will be able to do their opposing low level turns with the apron/terminal/carpark opposite the crowd line.:confused::eek:

Pretty much all aerobatic sequences will have to go north-south so as not to pass over the terminal/carpark.:confused::confused:

I have heard that the organiser has asked Micro-aviation if they will do a 15 minute slot with the Bantams. No disrespect to Max's fine little craft, but 15 minutes is a loooong time for any airshow act.... Sounds like they've got some no-shows to compensate for.

Also heard that all public access will be on terminal side of airport, can anyone confirm this?

In the letter from Mr Ross, which arrived right on press start time, he said he had tried to appraise the newspaper of the air show details last year but was ignored. He said the paper only appeared to want to run negative stories. "You can be assured that other event promoters outside of Hamilton will be looking at the highly negative treatment that your newspaper has meted out to our company ... the loss to Hamilton residents could be $5 billion.
Wonder where he gets the $5 billion from.

From what I have heard he (Ken Ross) had no idea of what he was doing. He made a lot of assumptions which usually lead to the mother of all **** ups.

He assumed that all the big acts would just turn up without actually being asked. He assumed that he could do what ever he needed to do without consulting the affected parties. After all he was running the largest Wings and Wheels show ever to be seen in New Zealand, how could anyone not want to be involved.

Komac2, I presume your reply was to my comments about the organiser.

I must admit my information is second hand but I believe still accurate. I stand by what I said. His assumptions and actions that upset operators on the airfield go right back to when the airshow was first mooted. He tried to run rough shod over so many people. People only discovered things that would affect them when they saw the publicity info. They hadn't been informed about what was to happen or how it was to happen.

Is it any surprise that some operators weren't forming a queue to give their consent.

There was never any thought given to what effect the airshow might have on operators based on the airfield nor any consideration of compensation for loss of earnings. In some cases the loss of earnings would not have been just for the airshow days, but would have stretched to over a week due to the setting up and removal of seating and displays etc.

It wasn't just sponsors who wanted the show to go ahead in some form or other, some of the affected operators also gave their support to ensure a show took place.

No doubt he was stressed towards the end, it was self inflicted. Right from the start he alienated a lot of people who might have helped him.

I think the concept has merit, just very poorly handled in this instance.

Have to question the suitability of the venue though. Hamilton is a fairly busy place 7 days a week now. Trying to fit a high power Wings and Wheels Airshow in around the normal activity doesn't make sense to me.

2 seater MKIX I believe is getting close...ie here, but not flying yet. Think the one in Feilding is still a year away at least.

The 2seater was already delayed in the States , so that one can be discounted . There might be a couple at Ardmore , though I do not know there current status , NH799 was one not sure of the other . What is the state of Subritsky's one ?
