If there's someone out there who has done the test recently, can you tell me if we can take TACs in or not? The material list from ASL is saying only erc high charts. Is this the case?? If so, are the distances around terminals given to you or do you just have to take a stab?

I think I took TACS in. But I also wrote the distances on the ERCs beforehand to, saved a bit of time during the exam

The question will usually give you those distances and bearings that are not shown on the ERC. Just take your TAC and if it is rejected then put it away. As Brown cow stated, write the dist on your ERC to save time just to be safe. Good

if not, the position will be on the dme arc; 65, 90dme etc..

I concur with rep they give you those distances... or if not its pretty simple to work out! Good luck!

i'd be REAL careful writing the distances on the ERCs. I did it, just really small and in light pencil because they can be quite strict with hand written notes on maps.

I also highlighted all the popular routes one color west, a different color east (helps when they're close together) and memorized the distances for the most popular onces, like SY BN.

As with a few of the other guys who have posted, I also wrote (and highlighted) distances on the ERC High's. Yep, DME Arcs will do the trick as well as other waypoints that appear to be the same distance from the airport. Failing all that, just use the scale! If you do Nathan's course and sit the exam at Maroochydoore, the people there usually don't check your materials at all. Good luck mate!
