VB January Interviews

Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has been given the call for a January Interview with VB. Rumour has it that it'll be the month for Embraer recruitment?
Anyone?

As I understand it, the first ground school for Embraer FO's starts early January (in Zurich) so I would have thought VB has already started Embraer recruitment.

Howard Hughes 27th Nov 2007 10:04

That is correct, I know someone who is on the flight to Zurich..:ok:

jay700 27th Nov 2007 10:35

Has anyone out there been called for a January interview?

I have been expecting an e-mail from VB for several weeks now, still no word.

Zurich! What? Are VB paying for E-Jet endorsement or is this tab picked up by the young hopefulls?

Are they at least offering to salary package the cost of the airfare, accomodation, training and per-diems? Or does the new recruit have to go into hock to subsidise VB's operation? Are they being paid whilst doing the ground school?

How much does all this cost? What is the duration of training with Swissair? Last time I was in Zurich, a 6 min 'phone call to Melbourne cost $22!

My guess would be:
Type rating $30,000.
Airfares: $1,800,
Accomodation (30 days...in a dump): $3,000
Meals and transport: Another $3,000.
Lost Salary:$10,000 (2 months @ $5k/month..would be much, much for me).

That's about $47,000... at least...:ugh:

RTB,

All the expenses you have listed (except type rating which is salary sacrificed by new FO's I believe) are paid by VB. Overnight allowances for meals. Time in Zurich is 8-10 weeks. I think accommodation is the Zurich Airport Hilton (15 minutes from the centre of Zurich). I think roughly 60 crew will be trained in Zurich and the training will be in house (Brisbane) from around April.

An exciting time for many!

PS they have these things called intenational phone cards these days - call Oz from Switzerland for 5c per min!! ;)

And then in the 50's they invented this thing called the computer and with the evolution of the machine and it's running processes you can now use a program called Skype and call for next to nothing (infact nothing at all if calling another computer). Apparently they even make one small enough to carry on ones person and wait for it.....they call it a laptop. Geez what'll they think of next!!
LMAO.....
D :}
Sorry for the pisstake but as much as I fought the urge I just couldn't help it.

That's all Wright..!

Last time I was in Zurich, you guys probably weren't even born! And yes, I went to Sunbury Rock Festival.... TWICE!

I still remember the sound of the hourse drawn milk cart in inner city Melbourne from when I was a teen.

Now, does Virgin pay a salary to these guys whilst they are in ground school?

Yes, they will be paid a salary minus the salary sacrifice amount of course.

Taggert 27th Nov 2007 22:03

Back to the original question guys, rather than the usual slanging match, anyone had a call?

captwawa 28th Nov 2007 02:55

imm not sure they do pay the 737 guys on ground school, and endo phase.

can anyone clear this question up that is in the know.

Warped Wings 28th Nov 2007 03:18

Until you check to line as Captain on an Embraer, you are still classed as a 737 FO and you would continue to be paid as such. What makes you think otherwise? No different than 737 FO's upgrading to command on the 737.

turbantime 28th Nov 2007 03:39

I can see where the confusion is here.

People doing the 737 endorsement are not paid until induction day which occurs after your endo and VB proficiency check is complete.

The Embraer guys/gals going to Zurich or elsewhere overseas will be paid salary minus salary sacrifice costs for endo.

When the Embraer sim is up and running in brissy, it will revert to the same arrangement as the 737 guys/gals. Ie no salary until induction day.

Good luck to all! :ok:

Ralph the Bong 28th Nov 2007 04:40

Wh...Wh... WHAT!!???

Do you mean to say that people who are current employees at Virgin Blue are paying for their own type rating??

YOU GUYS MUST BE BLOODY JOKING!!

It's one thing to get a type rating as a condition of initial employment but for current staff to be expected to subsidise their employer's operation, that goes beyond the pale. You might as well chip in for the fuel as well.

I take it the commands on the E-Jet have been allocated with a willingness to pay as the determining criteria for promotion, rather than qualifications, experience and merit.

turbantime 28th Nov 2007 05:39

No Ralph,

The above information is for new employees only.

All existing employees have their endorsements paid for by the company.

Geez people get jumpy

In both instances turbantime is referring to new FO's on the 737/Embraer.

VB interviews

Back to the original question. I applied for VB back in August. 4300TT 2000 multi turbine CMD. No call yet. I called them in Oct and spoke tp HR. Got a response from a very annoyed lady... 'well do you meet our Min requirements' :ugh:
I kindly replied yes and gave her my name.
'Oh yes we've recieved your resume but we have 2200 other resume's ' so i was really wondering about this shortage if they have 2200 resume's who 'might' meet their min requirements.
About Zurich. i lived there for a yr and was there back in sept. Fuç%en expensive. You would be lucky to get a meal for less than 25bucks. average 60-80 bucks a day just for food although you could live on Mcdonalds for about 14bucks for a bigmac meal. :}

Under Dog 28th Nov 2007 19:26

Flyhardmo

There is no shortage of pilots applying to Virgin at present .They still have a large pool to draw from regardless of any rumours you may of heard.

Regards The Dog

flyhardmo 28th Nov 2007 22:42

Thanks for the clarification dog. I was really wondering how much time you actually have to rack up to get an interview with these guys.

mr.tos 29th Nov 2007 05:50

The shortage has only effected G.A and regionals. VB, jet* and Qantas still have plenty of pilots to pick from therefor they can be as choosy as they wish, unfortunately:ugh:
