Flight Training Australia

Hi all,

I've just recently left Griffith Uni in Brisbane as i'm looking to start my flying career faster than the 2 and a half years it'll take there. Heard good reports from those being taught at Flight Training Australia at Archerfield, mostly about the instructors and the way they do things but have also heard a rumor that FTA has or is going to go bankrupt. There are a lot of us interested in the gossip on this as we haven't been told anything about it and the rumors are far and wide.

Also on a similar note, can anyone personally vouch for any of the Flight Training Schools out at Archerfield, since i've left GU i'm looking for one to go to!! Of course i'll do my own research and such but personal experience still counts for a bit!!! Thanks in advance.

just a bit off topic, i have a colleague (his last year of school) going to griffith uni to do an aeronautics course or something and get his license through them.. :suspect:
Is it possible to do it through them?
just out of interest.
(I think they go to RQAC)

Flight Training Australia is not closing or going bankrupt; its just been sold. I am told that it is business as usual with plans for expansion in the New Year when the new owners have sorted out the direction they want to take the school. Should be interesting !?!

send me a pm to talk:}

Ahh, basically we do a Bachelor of Aviation which is theory stuff at uni itself, then we also complete a Graduate Diploma in Flight Management which is the flight training and essentially allows you to claim your flight training on HECs. So technically not through the uni, they use FTA and RQAC at the moment though might gain another provider next year if the numbers are as high as they are expecting!!

And thanks ravan, i did hear about the sale about a month back and wasn't sure if it was somehow tied into that. Some others were worried as FTA apparently were selling 2 or 3 aircraft (Some of the newer ones i'm told) to RQAC which fuelled the rumor mill fires a lil :P

Do you know who its being sold to?

Ixixly 30th Oct 2007 23:22

Not sure who it was sold to exactly, but the same company that currently owns AV8 Brisbane i believe. Be interested to know who that is!

The companys name is Flight Ideas

ravan 31st Oct 2007 09:59

That's correct; Flight Ideas is the company and it is owned by three (?) entrepreneurs, at least one of which has a background with a major carrier.

I suspect there will be a move towards bringing in overseas students and possibly some MPL training. Should be an interesting venture to watch and may make some opportunities for instructors in the Brisbane area if the expansion goes ahead as planned.

Hey, thanks for the info!

Another rumour i've heard about FTA is the potential purchase of Glass Cockpits to make a grab at getting some Qantas affiliations of some sort? anyone heard anything about this?

I know a new company will be setting up in Redcliffe within the next 6 - 12 months with brand spanka glass cockpit cessna's for training, and a few turbines for charter...

I know they are looking for a CFI and will pay good dough, PM me if you fit the bill and I can pass on your details to the owner..

I am not connected to them at all, I just know the owner from having done some helicopter stuff in the past with him.

That's terriffic more people looking at a TV instead of outside where they should be. :ugh: In a CTAF where no radio is required also!
