Headsets in carry on luggage
 

Has anyone had any problems with the security idiots over taking you DC's in carry on luggage?

I do not have any check in luggage, and having long sharp pointy things on the end of a long lead might be too much for some power tripping security dude.

I know Mr Clark never designed them as a weapon, but that does not seem to matter.

I've taken my DC's on as hand luggage in my flight bag. They pulled them out and gave them the once over but that was OK.

It didn't seem to occur to security that I could have given someone a very severe ear-cupping with them!

You should be fine, i've carried my headset on as hand luggage many of times without a problem flying JQ and DJ

I have never been challenged. I have taken them quiet a few times.

OK well when I get pulled up, I will take out a printed copy of this and say ......PPRUNE SAYS SO!:}

I always figured that I would argue that they were the only equipment in my bag that were designed and certified to be used in an aircraft.

I carry mine all the time on qf; no dramas so far.

I once carried 2 x headsets, 1 x plb, 1 x 296 Garmin, 1 x medium mag light and a set of halogen bike lights with bike drink bottle battery that says in the instructions to not take it through airport screening because it looks like a bomb. Thought I'd test the waters. It worked; every time I went through the checkin a yellow box came up on the screen warning them that the package was suspicous, same too with the PLB but no rejection for carry-on. Interestingly when the battery and PLB were placed upright in the bag as it went through there were no alerts as the profile was quite skinny I guess.

Ah they'll ban Ray-Ban sunnies next. Just in case you try to take over the cockpit, disguised as a flyboy.

Be sure not to wear blue trousers, white shirts, or say "8 minutes bottle to throttle" next time you pass the Security Checkpoint Charlie...

Headsets should be a doddle.

I inadvertently took my leatherman through Isa, Brisbane and Sydney with no problems the other day. So nice all of those security people to let me do that.

I've been through US and Oz security with 2 x headset, 1 x stopwatch, 1x ICOM several times and only once got asked why. Answering "pilot" got a smile and a wave. However, last time I remembered at check in just in time to remove my fuel tester (sharp pointy thing on the end) and transferred it to checked bag.
I certainly wouldn't risk a nice leatherman as you've effectively lost it if/when its found at screening.

the only time security has been interested in my headset was in Europe and probably half the people were being pulled aside and having their baggage opened, the girl who inspected my bag was a bit of allright though, it's not all bad. maybe carry your licence or asic to explain it if you're worried.

I had my back pack with flight helmet questioned for an international flight PH to JB 18 months ago.

Apparently it returned 2 positive spikes for fertilizer based explosives, Ammonium Nitrate I guess, and another spike for smokeless rifle powder, and confirmed on re-test.

Got ushered off to a small room with 2 security chaps and 2 senior FA's.

Couldn't really explain it myself so I simply stated that most country blokes smell a bit that way, it's our lifestyle and blowing things up and shooting are perfectly valid and educational past times in the country. Although it did stump me a bit as I hadn't been near either product for ages.

They seemed pretty happy with that and I boarded my flight to JB.

Has anyone been pulled up with a fuel drainer and screwdriver attachment still intact?

Been through several airports over aust and not even a stop and close examination??

Surely now the screwdriver will be a nice little tool, able to take out cabin crew and then unscrew the cockpit door, or even better?????

Careful, the Feds will read this and remove my entire stock of McGyver tools, including chewing gum, the gum wrapper, bar of soap, a condom, carbon rods, expired credit card, and 110ml Colgate tube....
