Senator Online

Just found this online

An Interesting concept, of your local member / senator being online.
Wonder how messy it could get, if the political system goes through the process of voting by the general public on every bill to be passed.

Good chance that pilots could stand against more politically powerfull companies.

If you read their constitution, it says that it is made up of an executive body of 10 members. Any member of the public can vote on any bill.

On each bill, there will be a summary of arguments for and against, as well as professional comments by "experts" in the field.

To vote YES or NO for a bill, there has to be 200,000 people vote with a 70% majority.

Between 55%-69%, there will be a decision made by the executive body whether to vote YES or ABSTAIN.

Remember that there has to be over 200,000 registered votes, so this will only really work for large public bills.

Also (a good thing), their constitution only allows them to run for seats in the Senate, so they can never form a government.

I doubt they will get many votes as they will not be able to make preferential deals with the major parties because they do not have a stance on any particular issues and cannot vote out of line with the online polls.
