Best colour to paint the plane?

Curious as to what would be the best colour to paint a plane. Everyone has white ones which are phenomonally boring, and depending on the conditions, hard to see. Was thinking of maybe Jet Black, possibly with a big silver fern emblazoned down the side and some sharks teeth on the intake...especially good for an 08-600, perhaps not easy to keep clean if its doing super tho i suspect.
What do u reckon would be the easiest colour to spot in the sky?
So many choices

How about 'Sky Blue';)

russianthru_thesky 14th Oct 2007 13:50

Its amazing how many sky blue planes are actually out there!!!!
As for Pindan Red, you wouldnt be suggesting that colour for the parts of australia around say, Derby Breadvans by any chance? :D

If you're from WA the last thing you want is a black aeroplane.

havick 14th Oct 2007 13:54

red, with racing stripes... makes it go faster

russianthru_thesky 14th Oct 2007 13:56

And paint some oil stain marks down the left side of the pod??

In my experience black looks like crap after not long. It fades and loses its gloss. Old black looks a lot worse than old white.

3 choices,

- use a reddish paint with iron oxide powder, makes your plane a nice display if any hot naked flame is put near it :P (thermite reaction) (only if the body is aluminium though)

- hot pink

- yellow, with red racing stripes

but i love your idea of the jet black with jaws :P. might make the plane a bit hot though.
maybe green/brown camo on top, and sky blue on the bottom :P

How about Air Superiority Grey for your "plane".....??

PingDit 14th Oct 2007 18:16

Worst colour for aircraft...

...don't know about the best colour, but there are problems when larger flying schools paint ALL their aircraft of the same type with the same colour scheme...while it might look good on the ground, it makes it pretty difficult (if not impossible) to tell them apart in the air...annonymity in numbers??

Ell85 14th Oct 2007 23:07

Zebra... then you get the best of both worlds, shiny black and long lasting white.

high talker 15th Oct 2007 01:14

Im sure if you speak to the guys at qlink they could supply you with pink.

russianthru_thesky 15th Oct 2007 03:36

I was thinking maybe black and yellow stripes could look interesting....bumble bee style!!

I once saw a cessna 208 parked out at Archerfield all decked out in black with red fire streaks. The shiny black paint made it look great. I wonder how often they wash it to keep it looking so shiny clean?

207Wannabe 15th Oct 2007 07:07

Fluoro colours are back! You then have the choice of wearing your happy pants or parachute pants when flying!

PyroTek 15th Oct 2007 07:40

207wannabe: Thats what i refer to as a "Raver plane" :P

how about an olden day silver look? :P

russianthru_thesky 15th Oct 2007 07:42

I reckon those old B29s and Mustangs painted silver looked fantastic....but how much brasso would u need to keep them looking so shiny?
