Cadetships

Hi all

just a general question, please reframe from flaming...

I know there are a fair few Cadetships being offered by various organisations in OZ and was wondering what the pros and cons are, plus if there is any particular one that some may recommend.

Any extra info on pay after completion, hours logged, command time, actual ratings, conditions, quality of training etc

1, Sharp Aviation - PA31 and Metro
2, Jetflite \ ****** - Metro
3, Qantas - ???
4, REX - ??? (with eventual SAAB time)
5, Any others?

Now the dilema is that these courses cost about as much as a JAA Integrated course, which (apparently) have a good airline employment rate, so should one go down this track instead?

Thanks in advance!

Anyone? I would have thought there would be a fair few people that have gone through these or have experience with these...

Aussie 5th Oct 2007 06:26

Gday mate,

I havent done the cadet thing, so will leave that for someone else to answer...

As for the JAA i have completed the conversion earlier this year, and came over to EU, now on a jet...

Its a fair effort and cost, but its worth it. Also depends where you go in EU, From what they tell me, UK isnt as short of crews as the rest of the EU...

PM me for more details!

If you were offered a QF cadetship and took one of the others instead then you'd have rocks in your head.

It depends on how you look at it. Many people take lifestyle choices these days and living/working in regional Australia can be more appealing than being based in the big smoke with Qantas!

rex cadetship

Just had a browse through the AFAP web site and saw the advert for the Rex cadetship. It doesn't look like a bad deal. You can get a loan to fund part of it and a possible scholarship to fund the rest of it. To me thats a step in the right direction. Even if you have to RHS for a while it couldn't do any harm. Maybe getting some valuable experience under the supervision of an experienced Captain i reckon would be good for a 200 hr pilot?

Mr. Hat 5th Oct 2007 09:30

you can live in the country and work for qantas if you want..

Howard Hughes 5th Oct 2007 09:32

I agree with Keg!

If you got a cadetship with Qantas you would be mad not to take it!:ok:

PS: I will have to stop doing that!

Yeah No commuters in Qantas, Everyone lives in the Big smoke!:ugh:

Paper Planes 5th Oct 2007 12:24

I know many that commute. Especially ones that choose to live in nice places like the central coast. Only about an hour from Sydney?

The commute would be a little harder if you really liked living in places such as Wagga or Kunners?

Keg 6th Oct 2007 03:27

There is at least one Wagga commuter. I know of three in Dubbo, a couple in Auckland, more than a bunch in Perth, a few in Adelaide, at least one in Tasmania, one in Orange, a few on farms near Tamworth, etc, etc.

If you want 'lifestyle' and you choose other than QF then you've got rocks in your head. The only lifestyle that you'd have with Rex that you wouldn't have with QF is the ability to be home most nights of the week.

Yeh.. I hate being "stuck" in Australia

Aussie 6th Oct 2007 06:43

Yeah and how many would give there left nut to be in aus! However if ya want to be based outside aus, plenty to choose from :ok:

Gregbih 6th Oct 2007 08:03

like?

Mr. Hat 6th Oct 2007 11:20

Yeah would be a hard choice between the ******/Rex cadetship and Qf one....

Gregbih 6th Oct 2007 14:56

still noone answered my question!
any Qantas pilots based outside of Oz at all?
would appreciate your response plz:)

Aussie 6th Oct 2007 16:28

Well Emirates, cathay, qatar, etihad, silk air, dragonair and the list goes on..

As for bases for QF outside Aus, apparently not, however as keg mentioned, guys commute from Auckland.... so living in another country however not based as such.

Cadetships

All you eager young beavers looking for a cadetship path into aviation.
Look up the history of Tamair, they ripped off many young beavers before
they casually collapsed into receivership, you can lose your money.
Don't ever pay upfront, unless it's with Qantas.
History has a habit of repeating itself.
