Embraer Brasilia or Saab 340B

If you have to choose, which one would you go for (as a flight crew) and why?

tail wheel 2nd Oct 2007 10:57

Learn the rules! :ugh:

Ausboy 2nd Oct 2007 11:56

what do you mean?

Lasiorhinus 2nd Oct 2007 11:58

The only "rules" i can think of in terms of flying Brasilias or Saabs, would be the Instrument Flight Rules....

Lasiorhinus 2nd Oct 2007 12:22

Tintin, go away and find out what sort of aircraft Virgin Blue actually fly.

Track Direct 2nd Oct 2007 12:44

Tintin

You don't know what the fcuk you're talking about !

SF340 = REX -- RPT
EMB120 = PELAIR -- Night freight

Should'nt you be studying for that BAK exam coming up...:E

Aussie 2nd Oct 2007 12:47

hehe, Virgin flying EMB 120's!!! Now theres a new one!

Wrong Embraer buddy!

P-air 2nd Oct 2007 14:01

Ausboy,

May be a little biased, but i would choose the E120. Nice entry turbo prop, with quite a few E120's around Oz in Service today. Airnorth, Network, Regional Pacific, Pelair.

Would give an insight into the evolution of the systems on Embraer's E170/190, not to mention E145 and variants. Most importantly gettting used to the Embraer Yoke!

But above all, quite an enjoyable aircraft to fly.

Have never driven a Saab 340, so unable to make a comparison other than own personal bias, perhaps a ford holden type of thing :p

Would give my vote for the E120

Mr. Hat 2nd Oct 2007 14:05

Not sure its a fair comparison - 340 really shouldn't be put up against a E120

The Kavorka 3rd Oct 2007 02:44

I think the question is would you rather diarrhoea or constipation!!!!

Dog One 3rd Oct 2007 12:11

I would support the vote for the E120 - faster than the Saab, can cruise a lot higher and carry a reasonable payload. Also has an APU to keep the punters warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Remember some of the Kendall A models struggling across Bass Strait due to ISA + temperatures.

twinjet69 4th Oct 2007 08:19

Both flight decks way to small!, E120 if pushed.......

Monopole 30th Oct 2007 06:07

IMHO.......... Turbine Command

1. Command on > 5700kg
2. Command multi crew a/c
3. Still 'Glass cockpit'
4. Shorter bond
5. Better pay

Just because you have jet time doesn't mean you have a leg up in VB, JQ or QF.

None of the operaters you listed operate F100 or B717s so you still need type endorsements anyway.

If you are actually considering sticking with an operater (and I am assuming your not by your post) then F100 (Alliance or Skywest both good operations) or B717 (NJS, we'll wait and see what happens with that one) would be my choice.
