Fly-in To Perth Red Bull Air Race from Melbourne?

Hi everyone,

just wanted to see if there was any interest to share a trip in one or more light aircraft from Melbourne to Perth for the Red Bull Air Race on the weekend of 3/4 November.

The idea is to hire a Warrior or such like and make it over there towards the end of the week with a few stops along the route, coming back early the following week, taking as much time as needed/wanted/possible.

Great idea. Be a great flight. I'd do something like this but wouldnt get the time off. Suggest Forrest a a stop though. I'm dissappointed I only spent one night here on the way back from Perth.

Good luck and have fun if it goes ahead!

Top Idea, I'll be there for that, probably a few other friends will be too.

slower, yes, but as far as I'm concerned equal amount of fun for me as your bo for you.

In still air, I reckon 24 hours flight time to get there. Should be good!

The Esplanade... there will be a statue of Bon Scott in front of it soon.

Hmmm, still air on the Nullarbor/transline/Eyre Highway this time of year. A nice thought but not likely unfortunately. Definately worth the stop at FRT for the night. Current caretakers leaving end of Sep so be gentle with the new ones - and make sure you give them a bit of warning on ctaf - gives them time to get their clothes on:yuk::E

Jabawocky 16th Sep 2007 13:57

24 hours:eek::eek::eek:

In the Bo I recockon we will be there and back in that time +/- 10%:}

Even if I took the Jabawocky it would be quicker:E

Not quite so!

I just completed a flight from MEL to JT in a C172 and it took close to 20 hours with groundspeeds in the range from 23 to 117 knots with a typical GS sitting around 72 to 88 knots. Had to stop at YMIA, YPAG, YCDU, YFRT, YCAG and YPKG for fuel.

PlankBlender:

Check latest fuel status at YFRT before you set off. As of yesterday, I heard that they were running out of AVGAS and were limiting fuel uplodad to only 100 litres per aircraft; just enough to see aircraft on their way to Nullabor Roadhouse or YCAG which had unlimited fuel. Apparently, the refuelling truck from KG is not expected at YFRT for some weeks yet.

Also as SmokinHole has indicated, new AD operators take over from Monday.

23 kt GS across the Nullabor in a C172 !

Watch out Sprocket - you'll end up in NZ!
