Jet Lag...how do you deal with it?
Hi folks,
I looked for a previous thred on this but couldnt find one so I apologise if this has been done before....I was just wondering how the long haul pilots deal with Jet lag at their stop over destinations and when they get home. Cheers for your time. PA ;) |
I honestly don't have a bodyclock anymore!
|
Does that mean Braz you just get to your destination, fit in with their time zone sleep pattern and feel ok! Dosent it catch up on you at some stage? Do some pilots 'try' and keep their body clock going with the Australian time zone so that when they get home, sleep is a lot easier?

Two temazapen ( sleeping tablets ) and a big glass of water, thats the trick, just be prepared for 10-14 hours of the best sleep you'll ever have.

Shed Dog Tosser,
Are they a CASA approved medicine ????? Just curious. Dont think the FAA approve any meds of that type. |
my company has a 12 day and 9 day tour of duty. I find going out and having a few quiet ones the night I get in does it for me. But just got back from 12 day trip and didnt get a wink of sleep last night. takes me abou 4 or 5 days to get over back on normal timezone. I'm not into sleeping pills I prefer the harder drugs:}

I get jet lag all the time in the C172.
|
Well I recently read in an article that Viagara is good for getting over jet lag.
The scenario...home after 12 days...last 14 at the pointy end or down the back..pop the blue pill march in the front door all dressed up and no where to go and tap the little lady on the shoulder....from the standing position :ouch: |
Hi Paul,
Personally I take a long term view, something I don't think many of us flying people do. As there are only so many cups of coffee and stimulants you can use before your body develops tolerance I lean towards alternative therapies and common sense. .....it works a treat.....but then again I did train as a nutritional therapist when I started flying. :ok: |
There is some very comprehensive reading and advice on long haul flying at www.smartcockpit.com
Go to the flight ops section then scroll down to human factors, enjoy! |
How do I deal with jet lag? I get used to being tired a lot of the time.
To be honest it depends on the trip, the slip, the following tour of duty, the preceding tour of duty, when I got home (as in morning or evening) and what I've got coming up over the next couple of days. I'm largely off the caffeine these days (both during and after a tour of duty) and have found since largely giving up the grog that I'm able to recover much more effectively. |
Jet Lag
How do you get over it.
RETIRE, and only travel "F" and break your journey for at least 2 nights when travelling East, suggest KUL. Westbound doesn't hurt, in my opinion. Paxing BNE to LHR, no prob's, once again, my opinion. Cheers robroy PS, I agree with Keg, if you haven't retired. |
royboy
"break your journey for at least 2 nights when travelling East, suggest KUL" mate after having a gander at your posts i can see why people think you work for malaysian tourist board.singapores not good enough or hkg or bkk but kul. |
Wolfey
Singas is OK if you are with SIA, HKG if with CX, not fussed about BKK.
But yes, I am an MAS fan. Sorry I should have mentioned the others. I would prefer to stop at HNL on the way to the USA but that would mean travelling nz, so we go via KUL with MAS, stopover, ( included in the fare ) then off to the States via Taipei. Cheers, robroy |
