Multi Engine Turbine

Hello everyone!

I am planning to start my flight training from Basair Aviation College, Bankstown, Sydney and I need some help from you people.

Can you people tell me if someone does CPL/IR/ME-T will that be a plus point with the airlines and also which school offers the Multi Engine Turbine endorsement in Australia.

I've tried doing the search on ME-T but I couldn't find any info.

Cheers.

(I have yet to start and am totally inexperienced so please be a little easy on me for having limited knowledge, thanx :))

Dont worry about the turbine endorsement. Unless you know someone who is willing to hand over the keys for you, you may need to gain a little extra experience. Things tend to happen a little quickly. Its generally not worth it if your hanging off the elevator while the aircraft powers ahead without you in it... especially single pilot

any of yous know whether the BGT (basic gas turbine) exam is still a requirement?

BGT, as a separate exam, ceased some years ago.

Sady!!

You're just a very naughty boy. :D

Can u please elaborate what's wrong with Basair and what is the best option for an international student in Australia? Thanx.

Bula 12th Jun 2007 23:37

Just thoroughly check the contract you sign and make sure you are happy with come if its clauses..... especially about stopping training etc etc etc.

You should also add something about if your training is delayed for reason rather then an act of god you get some sort of renumeration... :E yeah right but worth a try.

I think if you value your life, you might care to miss Basair. They haven't killed anyone yet, but judging by the numerous problems they've had, it's only a matter of time unfortunately. :\

Basair are busy. Very very busy. Like, really busy. Get ready to be learning in a really busy environment. It's busy.

arms2serve 15th Jun 2007 23:15

Are they taking in more students than they can handle? Is the rush too much to handle for a new student?

arms2serve 18th Jun 2007 21:06

Does anyone know what r the requirements and estimated cost of doing a Multi Engine Turbine endorsement from Australia? Thanx.

Aviator500 19th Jun 2007 06:06

Basair seem to have taken on too many international students. I know if you are looking to do a Multi Engine (piston) rating with them on a part time basis, there is a long wait....

flyboy_33 19th Jun 2007 06:13

Have you tried Curtis Aviation over at Camden? They start you off on a tail wheel and stick so you therotically learn old school then they progress you onto the better stuff. They are also in the training area for sydney region so you don't lose valuable money in transit to and from the training area. Just a thought.

Am looking to complete some further training with them so I can do bushie stuff. They have good contacts with short gravel strips and bush strips for varying up your learning and getting to see a bit of this country while your over here!!!

Above all safe skies and good luck

If you are looking to get your CPL/CIR etc, I would be putting more time into finding & receiving reputable training rather than worrying about buying turbine time just yet.

Besides, any company that sticks you in the seat of their turbine will more than likely provide you with the endorsement training upon commencement of your employment. (Probably at your own cost. $8000 - $12000) The bare bone, minimum LEGAL requirement is only a CPL but Legal requirements vs Employer requirements will differ by a lot.:)

Ok thanks for the info guys, yes it's true requirements vary from region to region.

I'm currently doing my MCC (Microlight compentency certificate) and my ground instructor, who is a first officer on a B-737 in our national airline, Pakistan International Airline, recommended me to do the multi-engine turbine endorsement after doing CPL/IR/ME/ATPL. Although it's not required to apply in PIA, there must be something in it if he's recommending in it.

Can anyone please tell me how long does it take to get the multi engine turbine and how long is it valid before renewal is due. Thanx.

tail wheel 23rd Jun 2007 21:14

Initial ME Turbine endorsement: minimum five days ground school plus minimum five hours in the aircraft. You should be budgeting Aus$10,000 plus.

It is a type endorsement - permanently valid.

If you are currently doing a microlight license I suggest you have a lot of training to go before you think about wasting money on a turbine endorsements!

Muffinman 24th Jun 2007 23:36

Geez moderator I recall saying EXACTLY the same thing that you suggest in your last paragraph (it was post No.2) before you bumped me off:ugh:

arms2serve 25th Jun 2007 02:52

Yeah it's too early to worry about it, but no harm in getting to know the dos and don'ts long before i think about doing it :). Still getting used to the fragmented curriculum of pilot training. Thanks guys.

cheers.
