Anyone been to the Dig Tree lately?
 

Been there a few times by road, thinking of stretching the winter trip to Arkaroola by going to the dig tree to eat some sandwiches and then overnighting at Tibooburra to look at the murals:E before returning to the frozen South.

Google world appears to show a strip near the entrance gate about 300m from the tree running about SW/NE, I guess I can check with Nappa Merrie, but all comments gratefully received.

Last time I was at the dig tree, the landing strip was smooth if not a little wet!!!

Seriously though, talk to "Bomber" who is a true outback gentleman, from Nappa Merrie Station for all the info on the local airstrips. He gave us a great tour of the Dig tree as well. :ok:

Yep, strip still in good shape last September, I am sure it still is so long as it's dry. Small "museum" at the strip, only a short walk to the Dig Tree.
Strip has a nice surface (when dry, anyway) and plenty long/wide enough for the average lightie. A little hard to spot the first time, so need to stick with the map reading (it's on the river, of course) and/or have the GPS loaded. Details in the AOPA Airfield Directory (you're after Nappa Merrie Dig Tree, the other Nappa Merrie is the station).
Bomber is a top bloke and will happily tell you anything you need to know for your visit.
Don't forget to leave a donation/landing fee in the box!

Strip looked OK at Easter but we were doing aerial tourism and didn't land.

Anyone have the GPS co-ords for the Dig Tree strip?

thats Gold mate, not everyday you see a floatie at the Dig tree!:E in fact could it be the first time? wish I was there ya bugger!!:D
