Howard Hughes 26th Apr 2007 00:49

I'll do it! I have always wanted to cross the pacific, plenty of experience on Garrett engines, Australian and US licences, unfortunately for me, it'll probably end up costing you less if you get 'the experts' to do it!:ok:

bizzybody 26th Apr 2007 00:51

now that sounds tempting. My only concern is that i have heard the MU2 is a rather unique aircraft to fly and it bothers me. I dont want Clamback ditching the thing and i dont know too many people endorsed to fly the thing

Howard Hughes 26th Apr 2007 01:00

If one holds an FAA multi-engine rating, you do not need an endorsement as the aircraft is below 12,500 lbs! Not that I would advocate anyone flying such an aircraft without sufficient training first, it does however open up your list of potential ferriers...:ok:

Bendo 26th Apr 2007 01:07

Don't quote me...

... but I am sure I read in US Flying magazine that the FAA has mandated type ratings on the MU-2 because of its rather dicey handling characteristics.

David Friend is the go; pretty sure he has MU-2 time and he (touch wood) hasn't dropped one in 25 years of ferry flying.

pm me for his number

I can understand you want to find someone you are confident with to get your aeroplane here, however doing so at the expense of somebody's business is not a very good idea. Are you familiar with the term 'defamation'?.........

bizzybody 26th Apr 2007 02:58

Defamation: causing someone to be shamed or ridiculed.
Well im just repeating what i have read in a public paper and all over the internet so it is not defamation unless everysingle news paper and internet site that published it can be accuse of it also but I DO SEE YOUR POINT THOUGH

Besides i didnt mean it in a negative way. i used them as example because they were the only people i knew that could do it.

Well its a bit big to put in a shipping container.......make an adventure out of it and take an experinced ferry pilot with you. What a trip!

Mr. Hughes,

If you get the ferry let us know. There is a coupla co-pilots over here with some Garrett time who would be willing for a sea-change for a while . . . Namely me and astroboy!!

Send my regards to Mrs Hughes.

A newspaper or TV station reporting an event that has taken place is not defamatory however suggesting that a company would "ditch the thing" when talking about a flight yet to take place is quite different.

Animalclub 26th Apr 2007 08:04

Saw an MU2 ferry pass through Honiara en route from USA to Brisbane. To enter the cockpit the pilot had to clamber over the ferry tanks (about 6 inches between the tanks and the fuselage roof) as there was no cockpit door. He told me that if he had to ditch he had no chance of getting out. Sounds too exciting for me... mind you I'm not a pilot.

Bendo is spot on, in both matters.

gaunty 26th Apr 2007 11:41

Well I guess there is one born every minute.

Forget about carrying fare paying pax in it.:{

And whilst your are at it pick up a couple of Lear 23s and hey there are a bunch of Sabreliners and Jetstars going real cheap too.:*

Capt Fathom 26th Apr 2007 13:59

What's up your nose Gaunty?

Bendo 27th Apr 2007 00:24

Gaunty believes everyone in a Turboprop should be flying a Citation - unless of course they're flying a Conquest :}

Doncha mate? :8 :ok:

gaunty 27th Apr 2007 00:49

Well bizzybody opens up with

I need to get a Mitsubishi MU2 from the states to Australia
then

My only concern is that i have heard the MU2 is a rather unique aircraft to fly and it bothers me.
wise thinking but then why bother to bring one in when the aircraft is surrounded by all manner of controversy, including two FAA certification reviews.
Who is going to pay to set and administer the special "rating" system required by the FAA and almost certainly by CASA who will have to construct a special reg for them??

If CASA were able they should not allow any more on the register. It can only be the price. All MU2 owners are sellers in a dead set buyers market for them.

They were the same price NEW as a Conquest check oujt the USED value of both today, except the total population of MU2s decreases by the year, bit like the Lear 23. MU2 and Lear 23/5 were a product of their times, no longer acceptable in todays world.

Bendo :} :ok:

J430 27th Apr 2007 07:11

Gaunty,

I see on something freight related that AAE might use one in QLD?

How nasty are these things? Should I send my freight on them:uhoh:

Try a search on MU2+ice+stall+spin+crash+burn or any combination of the above.
