The first single pilot ME/CIR in AUS/NZ

I can't remember the full story as I was/am a bit inebriated for the telling, but I vaguely remember a story this old fella told me about the background of the first pilot to get a single pilot ME/CIR in I believe NZ, maybe he was with Rex Aviation?

Does anyone out there know more details? I faintly remember that it was a good yarn.

Or maybe old mate was just a bit more tanked than I was and was just taking the pi$$.

I am pretty sure the first GA pilot to hold an instrument rating in Australia was Sammy Dodd, who later operated Delta Services at Bankstown, running a Queenair and a 90 series King Air.

Don't know about NZ, but Phil Lightband would have to be a contender, and he did fly for Rex.

Didn't the flight test for the pilot in New Zealand go for 2 weeks?

RB, maybe we have both had a few drinks with the same inebriated veteran aviator.
