Want to start flying again...
 

I've finally gotten rid of the ball and chain and it's time to start flying again (after seven years away). I've looked at several places at Maroochy and generally don't like the student/staff segregation that seems to exist at a lot of the larger schools. Has anyone had experience with renewing their license/BFR after a time away and can recommend somewhere?

Geez, you sound like me! After 6 years off and a marriage bust up, did mine with a local aero club (not in Maroochy), all up about 4 hours flying, I havent looked back since...:ok:

By the way what sort of licence? If you are looking for work make sure you get those ATPL's done ASAP, that will be the thing that will hold you back. good luck with it all.:ok:

Who gives a flying fourex about student/staff segregation. It's about you isn't it. If you want your licence renewed, just go out there and do it! :ugh:

The CP/CFI Alistair Read is a CASA testing officer and well respected man and also a top bloke. Really great school and they do fantastic job...

Mae has it spot on. There ain't no such animal as MBZ's anymore and the rules on operating at uncontrolled (CTAF) aerodromes have all changed too. If most of your flying isn't going to involve dodging wake turbulence from Jetstar and Virgin flights, check out QAS at Caloundra. http://www.qldaviation.com Definitely cheaper as you don't have to pay for landing fees at the larger aerodromes and the staff there will treat you like an equal, rather than a newbie who is a good source of income. Ask for Greg or Stuart.
Also CASA has published on their website a new version of the Visual Flight Guide. http://www.casa.gov.au/pilots/flitgde.htm Old version is about 5 years old. New one isn't in print yet but has all the info you will need on rules and regs at the PPL level.

I too am looking to get back into it but in the West, Jandakot. Any ideas on who to use, plus maybe pick up a bit of casual work?
