Syd Metar on 12/1/2007 said, after saying TS to NNW moving at 25kts NE ; "VER:2.1.":uhoh: What does this mean ?

Bug Smasher Smasher 12th Jan 2007 10:46

Disregard. It's a bit of techobabble that slips through the system from time to time. :8

either that, or there is a new type of thunderstorm being trialled. the VER:2.1 could be a far better one than the VER:2.0

Prehaps Esperance got one of the first 2.1 versions this year!

farrari 13th Jan 2007 06:17

anyone from bom!!!!!!!!

CAPTBOB 13th Jan 2007 11:10

There's no one there!

Accurate or even just close forecasting went out the window when Version 1 was rolled out.

It never was a suitable replacement for the earlier versions of MK1 Eyeball and 1/2 a Brain.

Still would like an answer:E

AerocatS2A 16th Jan 2007 08:56

Post 2 is probably about the closest you'll get.

Used to get this on the METAR for YBAS and a couple other ports in the Centre up to two or three years ago.

No operational significance apparently. It indicates to the BoM user that there has been a change of equipment at the auto met station. New equipment or software upgrade is monitored to see if it is producing different outputs to the previous.

Give the BoM officer nearest that station a call, numbers are given in JEPP ATC pages AU-604 and AU-605.

Mentioned to the BoM that a NOTAM explaining the abbreviation would have been nice -- save a few hundred pilots thumbing through MET Definitions.
