Moorabbin schools
Looking for a CIR rating at MB. Any recomendations? What has happened to PBAFT, it doesn't seem like the same organisation. Has there been a change of management? It used to have a great reputation.

Hey Susie,
As I understand it, the aformentioned school was purchased recently by an ex-Essendon based school. Apparently just the same school but twice the size. I have only heard good things about them. Maybe the Soulman can comment on their MECIR, as he has just started his there. Good luck |
Moorabbin Flying Schools
Is the merger with ex Wings? They went into debt owing money to many. Did some training with Bini's some time ago and just looking for a reputable school to continue, seems to be new staff now at PBAFT. Any info on the new school about to start training or RVAC.

New MB training school
Hi Susie,
With regard to the new school starting at MB (Melbourne Flight Training) I could not recommend you to go anywhere else. I know the people establishing the organisation very well, both personally and professionally, having worked with each of them at different times in my career. I was recently back in Melbourne and had a conversation with them about their approach to training (specifically mecir's) and I believe that you will be hard pressed to find a school that will better prepare you for ifr flying (as compared to just passing the test like most schools). The simulator that they have bought is state of the art and I believe it will be the only one of its type in the country, which will only further enhance your training. If you would like any more information send me a pm. Cheers Blown Seal |
Melbourne Flight Training sounds like it will be an excellent organisation...I only wish I had my time over again cause I would be going there.:ok:

Thanks for the info. Some great ex Bini's instructors still at the merged school I believe, for the time being anyway. Lots of experience which is hard to find these days. I'll have to do some homework.

website is up and running
(So that I don't breach any advertising)
Type Melbourne Flight Training as one word, with the normal "www" and ".com.au" in the normal places. DIVOSH! |

in response to, Looking for a CIR rating at MB. Any recomendations?
Hey Susie,
I am also backing up what blown seal has said. Both these gentlemen have vast experience in the industry from flying training to flying for major Airlines. In fact one of them was my instructor way back in 1994/95. I also agree that these guys do give a rats about their craft. I am certain they will generate and then maintain a reputation for quality for a long time to come. They have a web site it has been quoted in a previous post all contact info can be found there. |
Moorabbin Schools
I have noticed that this thread has become predominately used to promote one school which has not yet opened its doors.Advertising???. I would have hoped this site would attract some other positive or negitive feedback from other users who have gained their qualifications from existing schools.

Can of worms
G'day Susie,
There have been plenty of Prune threads on Moorabbin flying schools. AFAIK, most have been about ab-initio through to CPL, and not MECIR. I'm not sure what you're after; most people will either strongly recommend the place that they learnt at, or strongly diss that place, depending on their experience there. :suspect: You wont find many balanced opinions, as most people wouldn't have personal experience of more than one (or two) of the schools there. :E (Apologies in advance to anyone with personal experience of several of the schools - I've seen around 5 of them at close hand). IMHO, PBAFT would still be the place to do your MECIR at Moorabbin. They're still operating, even with the new ownership. I'd also suggest that you give Malcolm Sharp a call down in Hamilton. They used to offer an MECIR plus a PA31 endorsement plus some PA31 ICUS time for a reasonable rate. This would give you MECIR as well as plenty of real IFR time in RPT and charter conditions in a PA31. PM me if you'd like more details DIVOSH! P.S. I am no longer associated with any of the MB schools or at Sharps :ok: |

Thanks,
At last some positive unbiased feedback. I believe Steve Pearce is excellent. |
Is Steve Pearce associated with the new Melb Flight Training and if not where has he gone?
He is a top IR instructor JR |
rjtjrt,
G'day Mate, Steve Pearce is still working at PBAFT. The bloke would have to be one of, if not the best IFR instructors in the game. He also happens to be a bloody nice bloke. Cheers, 29 Inches:ok: |
Moorabbin Schools
I definately agree, twenty thousand plus instructional hours I believe.
|
susie steve is a first class IFR instructor and is really keen and motivated about flying as a whole so it rubs off on his students. in summary one the best IFR aviators in Australia

Susie
At the risk of sounding like more advertising, I must also throw my weight behind Melbourne Flight Training. I would only be repeating what others have said here already, but I would highly recommend MFT. BW |
Moorabbin Schools
Downwind I totally agree, I have known Steve for many years as a first rate instructor. My initial question was directed to the change in his company's management and whether he and original staff were still there. My homework tells me that Steve is still there however sadly others may not be. Steve would still be my first choice based on experience and recommendation.
