Pilot and passenger survive Cessna crash in Tas

A PILOT and his passenger have survived a light plane crash in Tasmania's west.

The Cessna 185 float plane crashed into the embankment of the Gordon River in a remote area of Tasmania, 58km southeast of Strahan, search and rescue authorities said.

The pilot suffered back injuries and was taken by helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital, Australian Search and Rescue spokeswoman Tracey Jiggins said.

The male passenger walked some distance before being picked up by a Tasmania Police launch boat.

An SOS was sent out when the Cessna plane failed to return from its journey near Strahan earlier today

Another crash!

Well.. is this another crash to add to the list for Seair Adventure Charters?
1x MD500 - nearly killed all on board when chopper ran out of fuel
1x C207 - few broken arms when engine quit short of runway
1x KH5 - lost tail rotor control on landing
1x C185???

When will CASA throw the book at them.

Yes, Mr BR, Definately V squared. A bit busted up with a number of broken bones and some burns in Royal Hobart Hospital where he will remain for a few weeks at least. Feeling sore and sorry for himself, I am sure but expected to make a full recovery.

Can post cards and gifts (no flowers permitted) C/o: Neurosurgical Unit, Royal Hobart Hospital, 48 Liverpool St, Hobart. Tas 7000

I just mailed him Beaver and Otter aeromodels to occupy some of his time.

No idea what caused the accident at this stage.

No, DT was not onboard..rumours say it was a training flight..Apparently theres not much left of the aircraft, wings and floats ripped off and they are both very lucky to have survived. Lets hope the guys have a quick recovery.

Normally the floats ripping off save the crew from death on floats in piston GA single death traps.

VV, hope a speedy recovery and all the kisses from the female staff, I know you will return, avoid floats in Australia VV, all the operators in Australia need a bullet above the nose in order to sleep at night, some times wish they would sleep…..we can only hope !!!! Hope to see you in the skies soon. Thanks to the person that posted an address to say G’day to VV by post above.
