Holden Blimp

The Holden Blimp seems to have gone missing from Melbourne's skies. Has it dissappeared altogether?

Any sightings?

...............funny to read that the blimp was spotted on thurs & then again on frid in MDG......................that's cause at it's flying speed it's likely to be over MDG for a week !:)

So does it ever get de-flated or just sit / hover on ropes at an airfield?

Chief galah 5th Nov 2006 18:12

It's secured by a mast. Best windsock one could hope for.

I wonder what sort of hrs you could log in it. Just go to sleep in the cabin overnight while its tied down. Still in the hover so still flying. :}

interesting point

"Just go to sleep in the cabin overnight while its tied down. Still in the hover so still flying. "

Now is that really flying.....or floating??:}

In fact when it is transitting anywhere is it really flying??? I know I could Google the definitions but it might make for an interesting debate here.

Did it make an appearance at the Melbourne cup?

bwm85 8th Nov 2006 05:30

Guys....the captain of the "Airship" doesn't appreciate it being called a blimp. So if your sharing the frequency make sure you address it appropriately.........:}

It isn't "Negative weight"-it actually weighs a couple of tons. It just weighs less than an equivalent volume of air!!

Ultralights 8th Nov 2006 19:48

so the blimp wouldn't have a very high ceiling then?
