Renegade pilot ?

As a local operator at a rural NSW airport I have been troubled over the last few years (ever since I have been flying) by contact with an unknown and un-named rogue pilot who seems to abide by no rules except his own.
While he has been an infrequent visitor to my airfield, any visit is one too many.
He flys an unmarked matt black cessna, which I believe to be a 337 type although I'm not entirely sure. He often flys under the cover of darkness and daylight sightings are rare. He hardly ever uses the radio and when he does the voice is unlike any I have heard... or want to hear... spine chilling.
Im not sure what his business is or why he visits on seemingly random occasions, but I have heard many a dark rumor, some say he may not even be entirely human, but I think that is a good example of urban legend, if you will. But who knows for sure?
Just wondering if anyone else has had contact with this aviation myth...

Windup alert!!!

Old 1997's b grade horror flick, Stephen Kings "Night Flier"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119784/

If you have been seeing this guy at your airfield hand in your license and check in the local funny farm ASAP!

Z.:ok:

Awesome movie!

But seriously there is a black C320 which flys around remote NT by night. I believe it ferries prisoners to an outback prison. All flights night VFR only with all lights off and no radio calls. Sometimes if the prisoner misbehaves he will be shot in flight and dumped at a secret location.

Interesting stuff hey...

Cheers,
Tiger.

And I guess when the time comes for a mass uplift, they will drag out the matt black buff. they could unload enmass at the secret location after utilising the M60. :}

Many years ago, I had an acquaintance with a gentleman who owned a Piper Cub, not sure if he fitted floats to it or not, but he asked me if I knew of anyone who made them. It was flown in NT, and I suspect, considerably further North.

Last heard of he was arrested in Manila. Among his posessions at the time of arrest were three passports and an AK47.

I always wonder what became of GC?

There's been an Army Carribou operating out of a small council strip in the very south of Victoria last week. It came in for a look during daylight, then returned that night with no radio, no lights and no PAL activated and conducted around a dozen circuits in complete darkness.

Apparently a dozen local residents rang the local constabulary with reports of Korea taking over and other variants.

They must have been testing their night vision capabilities or something. They were operating off a medium length grass strip.

Perhaps this is the "Cessna" that you speak of?

sir.pratt 30th Oct 2006 06:35

how can you not be sure if it's a 337?

The matt black Buff is flat out doing scenic flights around the Bungles every night, although sometimes we throw on a couple of crims and drop them off at Turkey Creek :{ on the way back to YPKU.

Regarding the M60, we use it occasionally, but normally on the tourists. :}

Cheers,
Tiger.

So what ever happened to the BLACK Citation that used to visit (allegedly) the outback regulary?:\

Lead Balloon 30th Oct 2006 11:57

Hmmm..

I wonder why all these evil and somber types always choose matt black!

Now if it oozed blood, randomly screwed people, the engine emitted a howling scream like noise and it was inhabited by headless passengers -- it could have been the prime ministers boeing business jets.

Or it could have been a UFO from Bass Straight.

I, for one have seen many strange things at airports. Most of them in daylight.

:hmm:

Cheers to S. King. Aviation should be promoted more through the movies and why not put the Count in a GA type and let him run loose :ok:
Be it a 337, 210, 152 it's all good.
Booya :}

tiger 77 going to the bungles?

I didn't think you had seen the bungles tiger! the bungles are a little bit south of your regular service to turkey world aren't they?
you will have to let us know what they look like from flight levels in the kingair.

Ah yes... I too have heard of this renegade pilot.

Rumour has it that sometimes he refuels here in the dead of night gliding in with the mixture at idle cut-off to prevent detection only with a prevailing westerly wind.

Some say this pilot sleeps facing magnetic north... and that his sweat can be used to clean precious metals.

Others say that he is terrified of ducks and flies only at night because of his photosensitive left albino eye, and most amazing of all, does not give any radio calls to avoid landing fees.

They say that the only indication of his passing is the display on the CARNET bowser blinking 13 continually and that only a full power shutdown for no less than 13 minutes can reset it.

He sure sounds like a bad bastard.:ooh:

the wizard of auz 10th Nov 2006 09:32

He couldn't get one, as no one could prove who he was. Not even him. :}

Pinky the pilot 10th Nov 2006 10:04

Disclaimer; The following is totally hypothetical

Hmm, at first I thought that I'd better stock up on garlic and wooden stakes but on second thought the person mentioned now sounds like someone from a certain regulatory body of which I am aware.:eek: :uhoh: :E :}

Back in the late 80's I flew into Townsville from Longreach late at night, to be met by a reception committee of Commonwealth Police!

Apparently someone had been flying around the Charters Towers area at low level with no lights.

Could this have been your "Renegade"?

After a severe grilling I was allowed to go about my business - but the locals still say that on nights when the 12th day of the 12th month co-incides with a new moon, an aeroplane with no nav lights passes over CHT at low level on the YLRE-YBTL track, at 12 minutes past 12 midnight!

Kinda spooky, huh!
