Cross runway ops
 

I'm posting here to find out what other people think about this procedure. I was at an aerodrome the other day and was surprised to find they were conducting simultaneous runway operations on two separate runways. Let's say they were 36 and 27 - i.e. 90 degrees to each other. 1000 ft circuits were being carried out on 27 and arrivals and departures on 36. The wind favoured 27. This is at an uncontrolled aerodrome.

It all seemed to work out, but I can't help wondering if there is an accident waiting to happen here?

Dood, Just out of interest, if it was an un-controlled aerodrome, who was conducting (or directing) the operations?

have that sort of thing happen at my aerodrome.
lefthand 34 circuit and right hand 29 circuit going for crosswind.
tends to only happen if few aircraft in circuit . are within a MBZ . so if the right calls are made everyone knows what is happening

Fair question - the locals seem to have decided upon themselves that is the way they will do it. No direction, pilots simply choose to use one or the other, nor is it stated anywhere how ops are to be conducted. I arrived, only heard calls for 27, conformed and landed on that. Whilst on the ground I saw pilots doing circuits on 27, and arrivals and departures using 36. More than that, I cannot say.

Yep, I'm thinking an accident waiting to happen.
