runway lighting question

People,

regarding take off with reduced vis (say 800) what is the rule of thumb regarding number of lights visible giving a distance we can use to calculate if we are good to go? And if anyone knows this can you direct me to the the applicable nz ca rule. Cheers

FG most runway lights are spaced 60m, although some are 90m. So just line up abeam a light, and if you can count 14 lights, all is good to go. :ok:

Also just FYI, not sure the rules in NZ, but before I could do low vis TO, you could only use 500m (two crew) vis if the lights were 60m. If they were 90m you had to use 800m vis. Not sure of the ref sorry.

Just make sure there is an airport nearby with acceptable wx in case you have a problem and can't get back in.

Can't give you the reference, but at all the main NZ airports, the runway edge lights are 60m apart, and AKL centreline lights are 15m apart.
Calculation would be easier if they were 50m apart, but there you go!

And the good news is Australian Airports all have random light spacing. Some use 60m, some use other distances......
