Merged:Absolutely Ansett Again??? More Info Please!

Was reading on the web that Ansett Industries (not Ansett Australia) have lodged a takeover bid for Skywest Airlines. Anyone heard anything about this?

Well picked up Ferret.
This Link may assist further and explains the rumblings on this site, late last year.
...a flattering uniform for the FA!:p

AN LAME 6th Mar 2006 22:05

...its been a while, but I'm pretty sure that's not an F50 on that site...:hmm:

It looks like some kind of joke to me. I cant see Rex being taken over, if anything Rex will be doing the taking over.
Also, isn't that air-stair door a metro?

Monopole 8th Mar 2006 06:11

A letter of intent was indeed sent to Skywest.
It stated nothing more then "We intend to take over your company"

I believe they had a chuckle as it was promptly thrown in the bin:E

Now, on these forums, we often wonder where the funding is coming from for other ventures. For some reason, I felt it was weird to see them being totally upfront on the Home page of their website!

Almost like; "We know what you're thinking, so here's where the moneys coming from" like it's any of our business....

Ferrett 8th Mar 2006 07:27

This company appear to be a strange organisation. If memory serves I thought I read something many months ago about them starting an F50 operation in Queensland.

Some have made comment about the air stair being from a Metro (which it certainly look like) and the old style F/A uniform. I realise they are trying to retain a nostalgic image, however the web site looks cobbled together without a lot of professionalism exhibited
.
Does anyone know who the people behind this company are?

Monopole 8th Mar 2006 07:40

Buster, I found it odd how they listed the bigger more impressive companys like Rex and ****** (and at an assumption Skywest and not Skippers), whilst the smaller Airlines are called just that. Unless of course a 'Local NQ Airline' is a real company name.

Terry Byrt has a bit of a history of saying he is going to resurrect Ansett in some way. The original press release from months ago said he planned a new Ansett in Queensland operating a fleet of   F27s!!!
He is just a pie in the sky dreamer who likes seeing his name in the paper.

I have been researching a few things on the web & stumbled across this website: www.ansettregionalairlines.com
I am ex Ansett staff (reservations) & I am perplexed as to why someone would try & cash in on the name. Most probably this venture will fail, however I would be interested in hearing what news there is out there about this?

nannas_new_hip 21st Mar 2006 09:06

Big fan of the hosties uniform though! :E :E

HotDog 21st Mar 2006 09:10

A clever ploy, I think it could work for sentimental reasons if nothing else.

Geronimo69 21st Mar 2006 10:16

Sorry, maybe this will shed more light on the subject, I got to the above website via this website: www.ansettindustries.com It seems they have big plans to buy up REX, SkyWest, MACCAIR & a few other charters to make a new Ansett.
Who is behind this crazy scheme?

Wizofoz 21st Mar 2006 11:43

Some guy in Queensland. His original idea was to use 50 year old F27s to revive the glory days of Ansett. Now he "plans" to buy up all these regionals.

Now what could possibly be missing from this brillient stragegy?

oh yes

MONEY!!

:hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

Buster Hyman 21st Mar 2006 12:48

Ansett, as a brand name, still carries value. Regardless of what they think they can do, using the name will ensure some attention & as mentioned above, investment.

Look at Compass II. Same deal, use an established brand & watch the unsuspecting roll in...:(
