Mate, do yourself a favour, dont join the Army if you want to work on helicopters, join the Navy instead. I've been at both worlds and the Navy sh*ts over the army for fun and job satisfaction. Unless you like Townsville or Darwin, do PT, parades, weapon drills and all that other mlitary bullsh*t. In the army, you are a soldier first then a tradesman. In the Navy, you are part of a good team with none of this "us and them" between pilots and technicians (sorry to all those army pilots who aren't pricks!!). You'll have to get used to living on the south coast of NSW, but the deployments on ships oversea's is about as fun as it gets. Nowra is much nicer than Oakey, Townsville or Darwin and if you want a stable life, the chances are much better in Nowra. I was 12 1/2 years with the Navy and 9 with the Army so I can comment.
