Pearl Mallards
Can anyone help me out with some info on flying the mighty Mallards out of Darwin? i.e Min Requirements, conditions, current recruiting situation, who to speak to about a job, anything like that... It sounds like an unreal gig to me!
Cheers |
Lovely bird to behold.
A sinecure position I would think handed down from mate to mate and their mates in perpetuity...:p |
Not far from the truth there Tinnie
Mince You need to talk to the Chief Pilot of Pasparley Pearls (not Pearl Aviation/Aerorescue/etc) a gentelman by the name of Goodward. He is bassed in Darwin and mostly at the Pasparley head office in town or occasionaly at the Pearl Aviation hanger on Slade crt in darwin. He flies the Falcon so is away for long periods. You can call into the Peral Av hanger on Slade crt and ask to speak to someone about the Operation as the pilots and managers of the day to day stuff work through there. All the best Richo |
The Mallard pilots are a very good bunch but the aeroplanes are very old and been refurbished but have a lot of maintenance problems. These pilots are the top of the heap in Floating Hull Pilots in Australia/Pacific but are not reimbursed for their experience and expertise due to the one man mentioned who is nominally their chief pilot. He is feathering his own nest with the Papaleys and too insecure to treat these pilots properly. This will ultimately be his downfall.

Not to hijack the thread,
Purely out of curiosity, can someone shed some light on what they use the Falcon for?
Looks like a splendid machine, in any case...! 520. |
what they use the Falcon for Sorry, you left yourself wide open and I couldn't resist! ;) |
It sure is DeB, but more specificaly it is used to transport the Pasparley family and company personnel.
Both a work and travel machine. The interior is fantastic luxury. |
The Mallard with the radials were the coolest aeroplanes on the ramp at darwin.
Just about the best job too. Not a mates club. Quite a variety of pilots have worked on them. Minimums? I remember hearing something about 500 water landings, but that is a recollection of a 'Stute conversation from 1996. Maybe someone else can shed some light. |
Th best photo I ever took from the air was of a Mallard over in a bay to the north east of YPDN .. they always looked spiffy on the briney !
|
Has anyone got any photos of these aircraft that they could put up.

You want photos, this is the place for it. However, if there are any Pearl Mallard drivers that have any good private photos, I would also like to see if you would like to share. |
Thanks DeBurcs
:)
I actually thought until now that they transported cattle in it out to the pearl farms to ensure fresh meat for the staff every night. Glad I've got it cleared up now. Glad to hear it's not just a personal toy. Cause that would just be too unfair. 520. |
I actually thought until now that they transported cattle in it out to the pearl farms to ensure fresh meat for the staff every night. Live oyster feeding was abandoned after the animal liberationists sabotaged a Mallard loading live cattle at 3am at Hudson's Creek. Not too many people know of this practice, it was overshadowed at the time by the Wycliffe Well UFO sightings. Read more at www.nt.bull****.com |
they put PT6's on them to increase the available cattle uplift
|
anyhow have an idea what wage the mallard pilots get? I heard they were looking for pilots?

Hey Richo
Bit behind the times mate. "Goodward" is no longer there! Wonder why??? |
Mallard Pic
This one is probably the finest in the world, however it's no longer flying. It's located at Universal Studios in Florida and is absolutely immaculate in appearance.

That is a Grumman Albatross...the Mallard's bigger sybling.
Thishttp://www.swaviator.com/html/issueas01/mallard.html is a Mallard. |
what do they use the Falcon for?
Didn't Paul Keating use it (or its predecessor) some years ago to go on to Malaysia when his RAAF B707 cracked a windscreen en route to Darwin? |
