Chris Henry CIR Book
G'day Everyone
Looking to purchase a copy of Chris Henry's Command Instrument Rating Theory Course but can't find it anywhere :\ Can Chris be contacted directly by phone/email etc. Would appreciate if someone could help me. Cheers |
I bought a copy from Western Airmotive at JT, that was a couple of years ago though.
|
One of the best CIR books around IMHO.
I shall ask Chris when I see him at work next time. Cheers. :ok: |
DoD, Have to hurry. I hear he's leaving soon to greener pastures OS.
|
Thanks all,
And yes you are correct his theory book I found very good at cutting through the BS of other books around. Dookie can you get chris to PM me. Cheers |
Last time I spoke to Chris (about 1.5 years ago), he indicated that he was no longer updating his CIR textbook so, considering all the airspace and rule changes since his last update (which I have), it may not be a good idea to rely on his textbook to pass your IREX - although I do have to agree that his text was one of the best around when it was current.
However, Chris Markham's book also looks good and may be a better option today. |
About a year ago I was chasing a few copies for the flying school where I worked. I was told that Chris had stopped updating and selling the book. The reason I was told was because Airservices were going to charge him for the use of AIP / CAO / CAR references in his book. I would have thought that regluatory texts would be free of charge, but with privatisation this may not be the case.
What a joke!!! It was a great book, I used it with success for my CMEIR and it is a shame that ASA has put a stop to it by charging to use references. Anyone heard anything different?? Are other theory providers being hit with the same charges?? The Chef |
Yes Mr Wright, sad but true Chris is leaving for greener pastures and they will certainly be big boots to fill!
Naughty S I shall see what I can do :) |
Thanks all.
I too am looking for a school reference book. Dookie thanks old mate. Airservices shame on you. Cheers |
I believe Chris is leaving our shores at the end of the month. Not only did he write a very good IFR book, he is one of the best performance engineer's around. His skills have been used by Hazelton, REX, Sunshine Express and Virgin Blue.

Hey Naughty S,
I spoke with Chris and unfortunately at this stage he has no copies. He may give some thought to producing one again in years to come but no promises. He finishes up at VB tomorrow and it will be sad to see him go.:( All the very best! :ok: |
CIR Theory
Hi everyone,
Just to let you know that it is true. I have suspended updating my book for no other reason than a serious shortage of time. I figure if you can't do it properly then don't do it at all. Unfortunately, it is now seriously out of date, but who knows I might just crank it up again one day. I'm afraid that it is not correct however, that AirServices were threatening to charge me for the AIP data... they probably didn't think of it! Let me say, I am very humbled by your kind comments. After 15 years in publication there must be a lot of pilots who used the book and it's nice to be appreciated. As mentioned by someone, I have just left VB to head the Performance Engineering Division for Naverus Inc. These are the people who designed the RNP approaches in Juneau, Alaska, Westjet network in Canada and most recently the new approach in Queenstown for QF. They are moving into the heavy jet performance market and that's where I come into the picture. If you don't know what an RNP approach is, take a look at naverus.com. I will l still be based in Brisbane at supporting them in our time zone, so lots of travel. Let me say that leaving VB been a difficult call for me.. to all the Hazo, Kendell and VB pilots I have worked with, it has been my privilege to know you ... they don't make 'em any better than you blokes. Please stay in touch. my email is [email protected] regards, Chris |
