Qantas: The Next Round

It has been rather quiet on this forum regarding Qantas recruitment of late, so thought I would kick off the next thread.

I have recently been contacted by recruitment for additional documentation and ref checks. Just wondering how many out there are in a similar position.

Have heard no news of any May courses. Has anybody heard any rumors regarding upcomming courses?

Transition Layer 19th Apr 2005 10:46

G'day,

There was another thread going for a while, but it seems to have died a natural death:Qantas Courses April 2005 Someone suggested on there that we start a "Qantas May Courses" thread so this looks like it!

I know of a few people who had reference checks done last week, myself included. We all did Sim/Interview in early March and had security checks and OPG stuff done a couple of weeks ago.

As far as I can tell, no word yet on a May course, but if there is and it's a May 3rd start then it's 2 weeks today, or 3 weeks to a May 10 start. I guess this week or next will tell the story!

Lets keep the info flowing and good luck to everyone waiting for "THE call".

Cheers,
TL

HEY GUYS, HAD REF CHECKS LATE LAST WEEK........HOPE SOMEBODY HEARS SOMETHING SOON.
GOODLUCK TO ALL.

Valentine Rodondo 20th Apr 2005 02:54

Hey guys, also had references checked a couple of weeks ago.

Excruciating, isn't it.

Listening Watch 24th Apr 2005 05:18

Rumours from inside last week indicated that the May course was not approved, consequently canceling it. I would assume the reason is related to the difficultly in getting the nod from numerous senior management in various departments.

Nonetheless those that have been ref checked gear up for an exciting future in the near future.

Hang in there.

May crse definately canx - not approved by above. stdby for June.
awaiting approval......

Transition Layer 24th Apr 2005 07:58

Thanks for the info guys, at least the heart won't skip a beat now everytime the phone rings. For a few weeks at least ;)

For those in the know, would you say the cancellation is just a one-off or will things be quiet for a little while longer? With 16/month recently I guess the training department is flat out keeping up!

LW, hope you are enjoying yourself back in the big smoke mate!

Lots of SOs to leave the -400 soon, and even more if we get a few extra airframes.

Wouldn't expect much more of a wait for THE call (for a new home in Singas   )

Keg 24th Apr 2005 11:06

I'd say they're waiting to be sure they're going to be sending the TSOs to the right fleet. THAT decision will depend on the May board meeting and will then impact the bidding for promotional slots which currently is scheduled to close on 12 May.

It's all 'stand by to stand by' at the moment! :}

My gut feeling says the pause will be very short and the months after that could be bigger than the normal 12. Of course, we'll run short of sim time in the not too distant future.

Finally, the current fuel prices make new airframes which burn heaps less fuel VERY attractive indeed! :E

Has anybody heard any whispers in regaurds to if they are going to run june courses or not?

Cheers

nasmablue 13th May 2005 10:37

Haven't heard anything about June courses however did hear a couple of days ago that they have frozen recruitment. Not sure if this affects the running of courses..

Transition Layer 18th May 2005 12:08

Got the call today for a May 31 start, Sydney base.

Was also informed that negotiations are currently underway about the possibility of a Singapore base, but that nothing is firm yet. Basing would be for a minimum of 2 years.

Still hasn't sunk in :ooh:

So will all future pilots who join Qantas including cadets be based out of Sydney?

DirectAnywhere 21st May 2005 04:55

No.

Some are already based in MEL on the A330 and it's more than likely that from sometime later this year there will be a S/O basing in Singapore.

Condensation 21st May 2005 05:08

Thank you DirectAnywhere, in regards to basings are S/Os, Pilots allowed to choose where they want to be based?

Boston_Bomber 21st May 2005 06:15

In the application form, you are asked where you would prefer to be based.

In the end, Qantas will place you where they need you. The majority of S/O's are & will continue to be based (I would think) in Sydney. Singapore is the unknown factor.

Clearance Clarence 28th May 2005 23:24

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has any news on any June or July courses? Had Sim/Interview early April, still waiting for a response. Has anyone had reference checks or request for dental xrays lately.
Cheers:ok:

StraightnLevel 29th May 2005 04:36

G'day Clarence,

I had Interview + sim in April, Dental, police clearance and references were all asked for last week. Havn't heard of any courses yet.
