Visiting King or Flinders Island
 

Certain intrepid instructor is hopefully herding a few of us to the islands in January in a twin. Can anyone advise on fishing, crayfish, accomodation and food?

I used to take some guys fishing on Flinders. We chartered this boat for the weekend several times. I can highly recommend it. They organised accomodation as well

Thoroughly recommend staying at Killiecrankie (northern tip of Flinders Island). Flew down in a P68 from EN about 5 years ago. Grass strip, in the lee of some hills that caused a few bumps in the strong SW airflow (the tail end of that SYD-HB yachtrace storm).

Contact from memory was Alf Stackhouse, and he was building some accommodation there at the time. Very generous and helpful. Killiecrankie bay really is :ok:

Flinders Island is the go!
 

Flinders Island is a top place to stay. Middle of the Island has the town (capital) of Whitemark and the place to stay is the Interstate Hotel....good rates and top meals.
South end is Lady Barron (strip as well) and the place to stay there is the Fernaux Tavern. The Northern end has been covered in thread above. (Killercrankie).
Overall, the Island is a top destination and is worth a 10/10 for everything! Have fun and don't be afraid to stay awhile.:ok:
Next Island down is Cape Barron - also one very special place but alas, not much in the way of accommodation. Certainly worth a visit though. Next Island south is Clarke Island and that is pretty much off-limits with no accommodation or facilities at all.:p Some of Australia's best kept secrets are in this neck of the woods so psssst; don't tell everyone eh?;)

I have never stayed there, but the first flight I ever did in a Fokker Friendship, was from Essendon down to both those islands and LST, and return to Essendon in the jump seat all the way. :ok:
