Survival Equipment

Is there anywhere in NZ that I can hire oceanic survival gear from? Cheers.

I can only suggest that you contact the bigger yachting stores or sailmaking firms for advice. Deep ocean sailors tend to have all that gear for safety on their yachts. The "in the water" equipment such as immersion suits and personal epirbs, water dye markers and harness would be similar whether you are a pilot or sailor. They will be able to kit you out I imagine.

Good luck, hope you never need to use it.

cheers

Gin.

If you are in SYD, try M.O.S.S. Australia in Castle Hill, look it up inwww.whitepages.com.au.
They have CASA approval, do life jackets and rafts etc. Their main business is Marine (I think MOSS stands for something like Marine O.....? Safety Systems). They are always helpful and can rent stuff out.

Hope this helps

Try this guy. He probably won't want to hire out, but could point you towards somebody who would.

There are others. Have you done a Google Search?

Or you could phone the likes of Dennis Thompson and ask where his ferry pilots get their gear from.

Try Rob Leach from Air Centre One at Auckland Airport.

He has all the stuff and can do all the customs, ground handling that is required.

While on the subject of survival gear, remember a mask and snorkel for overwater flights and without elaborating too much now just remember that the inside of an aircraft in the water is like a washing machine and things move around on impact.

Also, what do you think your chances of survival are with fuel/oil in the eyes? ....There is always some of these contaminants in the water after a ditching.

I have carried the abovementioned for many years and will continue to do so.
