Jobs in New Zealand
If someone could spare a little time to inform me of the job market in New Zealand, I'd be grateful.
What are pay & conditions like with Air New Zealand? How long is the queue? The airlines website show's 7 A320's in service with 8 on order. Are these in addition to, or replacements of? Is the company likely to require experienced type rated crew & what are the chances of a european joining the company? Thanks for your time. |
All you need is the right to live and work in NZ.
Yes they do take overseas nationals, a number of Aussie's, a load of Poms, a couple of Swiss, 1 Iranian plus some other europeans. No you don't need type ratings. Freedom Air does require type ratings, and you also join the AirNZ pilot list on joining. The A320 is an expansion of as well as a replacement for the B767 fleet for shorter hual operations, the 777 will relace the remainder of the B767's over the next 4 years. At this stage there is no direct entry to the A320. Entry positions are SO 767,747, possibly the 777, or FO B733. All info on applying is on the AirNZ website. Cheers |

I'll second the question with more emphasis on the GA scene.... is it worth crossing the ditch as opposed to 'Going North'??

GA NZ
GA New Zealand is probably as hard as "up north" to get a start in plus there are VERY few multi jobs in the GA scene. Has a lot to do with the size of the country.
Having said that a couple of guys I have known over the years have said they really enjoyed working in NZ and have learnt a lot by flying here. If you do come over try the ZQN area and do some mountain flying, it will take some time to get used to the way things are done here, as NZ is close to operating as per USA rules. Cheers |
