"Security" breach in Sydney

Anyone know who flew under the Harbour Bridge? Just saw it on the news this arvo, so it has to be recent...

All that money spent on the gaurds patrolling the bridge, and they couldn't even stop a 172! Why are we wasting money on them?!

beer bong 2nd May 2004 12:44

It was me!! Done it hundreds of times on flightsim.

Howard Hughes 2nd May 2004 21:42

Now a loop under/over the bridge, Now that would be impressive!!

Cheers, HH.

:ok:

Cessna under the Harbour Bridge?

Anyone know about somebodys effort on Sunday about a lowflying scenic? Apparently the excuse was "didn't know it wasn't allowed"??? :oh:

Taildragger 2nd May 2004 22:49

Can't remember me Oz Rules, but if they are similar to the Pomeranian ones. ie: No closer than 500' to any vessel person or structure. That would cover it wouldn't it.??

Aircraft flys under Sydney harbour bridge!

A light aircraft flew under the harbour bridge in Sydney yesterday, reported to be tourists from QLD.

Reported they didn't realise they couldn't fly under the bridge.

Amateur footage was taken looks like a high wing aircraft!

Got this photo from the channel 7 web site.

NSW Police will question the pilot of a light plane which illegally flew under the Harbour Bridge.

Video available via the link above!

Wasn't an amateur crew. Was a 'seven news crew filming in a Blue's Point restaurant.'

:ok:

Now I'd be impressed if they flew it under the Harbour tunnel!

didn't know it wasn't allowed
What a laugh! I wonder what they'd say if they didn't know there were Rapiers or Patriots defending the bridge. If this was done in a "trigger happy" country, there'd be nothing left to make an excuse!

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity:hmm:

The funny thing is that so many have wanted to fly under the Harbour Bridge and this rocket scientist went ahead and just did it without even a second thought!

Will be interesting to see the outcome:E

Ushuaia 3rd May 2004 02:56

Hmmm..... thou shalt not fly less than 500' above ground or water unless in low-flying areas, etc, etc.

Now, the top of the bridge's arch is 134 metres AMSL and the traffic deck is just 49 METRES above the water. Yep, a gap to fly through of about 150 feet.....

It's been done before but with all the hoo-hah going on these days, that pilot is about to become an ex-pilot, methinks!

Gotta respect his/her desire to avoid IFR routes:} :ugh:

Chuckles

Lurk R 3rd May 2004 06:45

Apparently she got an RA from a bus on the bridge though...

Cactus Jack 3rd May 2004 06:51

I reckon it was Dick. Probably thought he was in Class E.

Got it wrong again, Dick.:E :E :E

Lurk R 3rd May 2004 06:52

Dick actually did it once before in his chopper.

Security Breach

Idiot.. mind you, people worrying about security. What would a 172 do to the harbour bridge. Chip the paint? :}

itchybum 3rd May 2004 07:44

Flew under the bridge??? Cool. Should be more of it.

Wish I had the balls to do it.

In an ideal world the Rapier or Red-eye operator would have the nous to discern between the half-drunken PPL and his mates and the latest graduate of Bin Ladin's Bomb-Laden Aviation College in his stolen "Smart" bomb.

No big deal

What about the Jumbo that Dick Smith took under the bridge?

And G for George Lancaster on its flight from the UK couldn't find Sydney until it had passed under the Bridge.
