RVSM Question

Could someone please explain to me or give me some links to research RVSM, I am able to find little information on this subject in the texts that I own. I am also looking for the advantages and disadvantages of RVSM. Many thanks in advance.:) :)

advantage
more aircraft vertically
airlines get the Flight Level they want, more economical

disadvantage
bit harder to manage
upgraded equipment needed
