Can't remember exactly but around 900m and dirt/gravel.

Yeah, a bit under 1000m, 09/27 from memory. The runway slopes downhill quite markedly for the last 300m towards the 09 threshold making the rest of the strip invisible. Also an engine failure after takeoff will lead to an intersting view for occupants of the main street.

The hills around 10nm south (in the CKN-HPV tck) provide some serious turbulence - more than you'd expect, so divert to 3-4nm the east to come in on the 100 bearing from or there abouts.

Large pebbles on the strip and from memory no parking area, but the grass area near the 27 threshold was clear of rocks, but that was in a shrike so not a huge issue.

Failing that, if you want a good 4wd trip, drive to Hopevale then along the Starcke track to Cape Melville (goes through the mountains under BENTA). Great fun!
