AOPA Australia would like to invite all industry members to a NAS Seminar to be held on the 21st November at Bankstown Airport.

AOPA Vice President, Ron Bertram, will be discussing the airspace changes that will be introduced on the 27th of this month.

NASIG have generously provided us with copies of both the Reference & In-flight Guides for all attendees.

Venue: Bankstown Airport Terminal Building, Bankstown Airport, NSW

Time: Main talk will begin at 1930 Local with a Special Guest Speaker starting at 1830 Local

Special Guest Speaker: Dr. Maurice Kirk
Dr Kirk is the pilot of the British WW2 Cub that was first to reach Sydney in the 2001 London to Sydney Air Race. Dr Kirk will entertain the audience with his tales and footage from the 2001 event, including an emergency landing on a deserted beach in Java.

Yes and I am sure you will get a balanced and fair assesment of NAS. Included will be the concerns of ATC and RPT pilots and the legitimate reasons for these concerns. Then will be discussed how it is dangerous to remove Frequencys from charts and also is dangerous to encourage VFR pilots to fly through E airspace without any broadcasts and in fact not being on the control frequency. Oh this little shin dig will be very valuable...???:yuk:

By the way will there be a question and answer session where concerns about the NAS implementation can be raised, as I am sure all the ATC's and Professional pilots would like to discuss these issues with AOPA, and it does say that all industry members are invited.

Well done to AOPA for being proactive, not whining needlessly but preparing and assisting the present (pilots), and future commercial pilots understand these new procedures.

Generally once is enough, now will come the 'But I'm a commercial pilot I dont need aopa' line, followed by the AOPA is useless anyway line, then the they fight amongst themselves line, then the 'I dont like that <Name: insert - Peter,Boyd,Dick,Bill,Bill,Marjorie) person, then my personal favorite, WHAT DO THEY DO FOR ME!

Personally I'd rather the b@#$@# didn't welch of my 100 odd bucks for their representation...... but pilots will be pilots...

Maurice Kirk, the man who arrested the CAA's barrister in Court, addressing a meeting on Airspace (re-) organisation / regulation? I wonder if they appreciate the delicious irony in that? I also hope they are going to remunerate him appropriately as he needs the funds to get Liberty Girl back home!

Snarek the invitation says all industry members are invited so my understanding of that was that AOPA membership is irrelevant. If you only want AOPA members to have a little love in and not hear any opposing views, then say so.

Dogimed, I have spent the last two months asking questions about the new airspace and am still to recieve answers to many of those questions. I have put up, so maybe its not me who needs to shut up. For your benefit, yet again

Why are the Control frequencies removed from the Charts????

What possible savings are to be achieved if there are more controllers needed not less?

Please show how E airspace is as safe as C airspace.

How is see and avoid, without frequency monitoring by VFR's going to work, when mixing with 747's descending at 4000 ft a minute out the bottom of cloud?

If TCAS is to be relied on, what requirement will there be for VFR's to have Mode C information verified as correct regularly? If mode C info is not correct TCAS is more likely to cause an accident than save one.

Please answer these questions.

The Seminar, like the John & Martha travelling circus, will be attended by some very confused people just nodding faithfully, and wondering just how this is going to make flying cheaper for them.

If nothing else I will be there to see if there is an explanation about what exactly is going on with the board. A little off the published topic, but I think an official explanation is owed to members and it would be an opportunity for them to do so.

Great place, Fortaleza, huh? And Brazil doesn't just have great aeroplanes either! Have you seen the 'fio dental' on the Praias, and Av. Beira Mar? Canoa Quebrada's worth a visit too.

MY question is " what about those airliners without TCAS? "

I mean there are many mnay fast,pressurised a/c out there ie: Metro's, J31's, B200's etc .... most of these DON'T have TCAS.

If you ask me, this airspace is being promulgated to remove the number of 225's that are currently being sent out, and justifying the VFR pilots' inadequate use of radio etc.

"See and avoid" might work, but "SEE, HEAR and AVOID" is better in my opinion.

I once flew with a chap who told me " don't make any position reports when you are VFR, just listen... that way you will know where all the traffic is" .... fine provided SOMEONE out there talks!

ALSO .... if this NAS is to reduce costs... does that mwean that the Fuel excise will be reduced ???AGAIN!

All, Friday night is mainly for those pilots that are not sure about NAS it’s not meant to be a night for industry bitching it is important that we understand this. There maybe a lot of low time or pilots that do not fly that often that need help in understanding 2b. If you really want to ask about the technical aspects i.e. why its being implemented the call me on 0408 637212, do not use this night as a soap box for your private issues. Sure you will be able to ask a limited amount of questions
But please stick to relevant 2b issues. 2b is happening we have to work with it bitching on Friday will change nothing.

Also no questions will be answered on that night about board issues read my post on AOPA CRUMBLES. My phone number is there as in this post now is the time to call me not Friday night. Be clear on this, Friday night is about NAS I will not be drawn into board issues particularly as I am sticking my neck out by giving you all my personal phone number to address those issues.0408 637212

Just wanted to say thanks to Daniel, Ron et al for organising last night's lecture - as always Dr Kirk's talk was extremely entertaining, and the NAS lecture was also very interesting. :)
