It's not a good feeling to have debt over my shoulders even though I am not obligated to pay it back until I hit a threshold.

Not planning on passing on any knowledge. The idea is to just film content and post it. I'm not an instructor so it cannot be educational. Is that what you mean?

He was warned many times by HR about his insta nonsense, but kept at it. All came crashing down when he was sacked from a Middle East airline for cheating on an exam. Somehow managed to get a job with Tiger and didn't pass his line training. Can't put too many of life's failures on instagram, it's bad for getting followers. The other (in)famous insta Pilot, PilotPatrick was sacked from his A300 captain gig with DHL after posting himself with the brand new Aston Martin which wasn't to be released to the public until the launch of the new James Bond film. Needless to say some heavyweights were rather pissed (including, but not limited to MGM, Aston and DHL) and he was summarily sacked. He hasn't flown for another carrier since (this was all pre-Covid and he flew for a freighter company - a position coveted by many now these days).
This can destroy careers. I would advise against it. Some companies have incredibly strict policies on camera use in the cockpit. By all means take photos of all your adventures, but do what most pilots do, keep it private.

I really feel you need to focus your energy on actually getting any job, hangar rat, shuttle bus driver, to put you in the best position to pick up your first flying job.
Have you completed CIR/ATPL's?
Have you rung around the entry level operators?
Have you simplified your life so you can travel to an area that might have flying work in the future?
I think you mentioned you were in Melbourne, now the ring of steel is open, get out into the country and get a job on a farm. Test out the country life, make some money, meet some people that might be able to help you find that first job.
Lots of airline pilots driving farm equipment, they might know a guy looking for a C182 pilot.
As on your other thread, the advice remains the same, hard work targeted toward the goal of flying an aircraft is what is going to get your "crippling debt" paid off.

1. Employers Social Media Policy
2. Vomit Inducing stuff (weddings, new pet dog)
3. Largely not realistic
In regards to the last point, you have people showing off on the Instagram, then comes the media articles ‘Australian Pilots melts hearts’, all like they are some form of hero. Meanwhile they couldn’t pass the 737 sim or can barely fly a hand approach.
It seems like the QLink CP didn’t have much patience with a previous employee, I’m amazed JS lets all this nonsense from one of his employees roll on. It’s a break of the Social Media policy if you ask me, so if it’s my pilot body, it’s either the insta or the job. Pick one. Otherwise pack your bags and take it to some Vietnam low cost who probably don’t give two ****s.
Having been apart of recruitment at a previous operator I can assure you that social media checks are done before interview.

You tube s useful for finding out how to unblock a radiator but another journey towards a rating or licence becomes tedious after the 1000 th notification. Been an instructor for longer than I care to remember ! Ive had some of my lessons go pro ed really more for students to look back on, I think it’s massaging egos really like the person who likes to be centre of attention at meetings. Some good content but technically lacking most of the time how about a video about a raw ndb hold entry exit etc !
Im not sure how long these videos take to edit but I’m sure it takes a while where do these people find their energy as when I arrive home there is always a million and one things to do my Wife would not be pleased if I sat for hours editing !

It says on PilotPatrick's profile that he's a Captain? Is that wrong? I am new to this industry but I don't understand why there is so much negativity and push back against Pilot Instagrammers and Youtube pilots. I like Missionary Pilot. His videos are awesome! He's probably inspired alot of people to get into aviation and learn to fly. I don't see that as negative as the rest of the people in this thread with their negative spins on it.
Sure, it might get people into aviation, but a lot of these narcissistic pilot profiles are just that, 'look at me and my shirt that 4 sizes too small to show off how hot I am!'. You notice that these pilots have all their instagram photos on just one subject - themselves. They pretend its about aviation (wank) but really, it's about getting gratification from strangers. "Farming for likes" if you will. I've never seen content containing getting up at midnight to go to work on a 20 hour duty, being herded onto a ****ty old bus to the aircraft or the terminal. Coming home wrecked only to look after the kids because the wife has been doing that by herself for the past week while you've been away. The constant need for study, putting up with cantankerous check captains in the sim, who really should've given up the game years ago, but won't because the third wife took him to the cleaners and he's taking out his frustrations on those he checks. It's always the watches, the cars, the manicured eyebrows, unrealistic tans, the layovers at the hottest destinations (but heaven for fend you should mention the hotel is by the airport). It all paints an incredibly unrealistic picture of what the job entails.
There are some pilots out there however, who should become professional photographers for National Geographic. Their accounts are not about them (they don't even have selfies!), but the beauty that aviation can afford to present itself. I'd suggest looking up some of them, their content is second to none. They don't make money off work out product endorsements or sun tan lotion advertising, they do it because they love aviation, not themselves.

Captain Moonbeams channel gives an unpretentious look at the corporate pilot lifestyle. Just a guy getting on with the job with no fuss. Lots of views of hotel car parks from his various hotel rooms. And lots of long days and waiting around.
This thread has provided some valuable insight into YouTube. I was unaware of how content providers were paid. If you get 100,000 views you earn a couple of hundred dollars. So with a few exceptions most of the channels make a few thousand a year. I found not much correlation between those I found interesting and how much they earn, which perhaps says more about me. I gather for example there are video game influencers making millions. While the extremely professional guy making stunning films bush flying in Papua New Guinea seems to be reliant on donations to buy equipment. Obviously a certain kind of person makes these kind of films. That does not automatically discount their value. In fact some of them are refreshingly honest about getting things wrong. The beauty is you can surf to another channel if you don’t like what you see. A list of people’s favorite flying channels would be interesting.
I've started watching "bjorn pilot", an A330/350 Captain with SAS.
A lot of what he does is clearly filmed in the transatlantic cruise, in this recent one there is a scene (at about 8.00 mins) where both he and the guy in the right seat had blankets over them and are "resting" following some a viewing of the northern lights (with a song called "bad" by U2 playing in the background, which sings about being "wide awake", so he clearly has a sense of humour!)
On another one recently, he talks about increasing pax loads and the amount of freight they are carrying. On one 330 trip to SFO he shows a rear hold full of fresh salmon.
Not passing judgement on any of the above, by the way (I'm in no position to) but thought it was interesting.

It's all good and well when your product doesn't attract much interest but if it does then when U2's record company find out their track was used without their expressed permission they will send in their lawyers who will look at the views and demand representative payment. If you don't comply they may well pin breach of piracy laws which are well enforced. There goes all that nice profit.
Listening again, I think it's a cover (doesn't sound much like Bono)
In this case with a few tens of thousand views YouTube would have paid them around fifty bucks. If the content were questionable (I believe they did object to political use in a recent high profile political contest) U2 might go after punitive damages. But nice shots of the northern lights backed by them seems unlikely to be a problem. Still it is a valid point made by Cattletruck and an interesting site highlighted by Wycombe. Missionary Bush Pilot is the channel I referred to earlier. The avionics and performance are rather similar between his Kodiaq and the Cirrus SR22T, but not obviously the engine management. So other than the scenery that is probably what got my attention.

What about Mentour Pilot and Captain Joe? Those guys have pretty descent contents.
In the other hand Pilot Patrick is an embarrassment for the professional pilots community.

This is why you often hear the same “royalty free” soundtracks across many of the videos you see, especially kids ones. When using royalty free music, you generally have to quote the artist in the video description.
I once posted a video from a cruise ship and YouTube picked up a song that I could barely even here when I made the video as I was walking through a bar. They emailed and advised that the copyright of the song means all monetisation goes to artist X.

My kids have said I’m being an old grump regarding you tube it is the modern way and a way of expressing yourself fair enough I guess, being a little reserved I’d hate my life events for all to see tbh. Maybe I’m not moving with the times. I have looked at some of the content mentioned on here and some of it to be fair is good but really the content that shows the views and capabilities of the ac more of a technical nature. The zero to hero ones are not great. In fact I found one from a BA A320 Captain who after 10 years left went to IT as he didn’t enjoy the job.
A lot of these do try to show how great aviation is but in reality it’s hard and demanding and stressful my main income is another industry but that is far easier to make money in. And it’s normal hours.
it’s not all great !
