Eviction notices served on tenants at Moorabbin ?
Rumours abound that the owners of Moorabbin airport have apparently served eviction notices on a number of maintenance organisations, that are apparently in the way of proposed re-developement for factories/shops/other non aviation related activities.

Holy crap, Third to Northern, just a quick look at google earth shows 60-70 Aircraft parked in that area with a fair few spots remaining. Granted I think on that grass area I remember some of them being abandoned derelicts but that's a ridiculous amount of parking being lost. Have they made it up somewhere else?
A tennant near Blue Demon tells me that the change is to give better access / carparking for DFO. I understand that Blue Demon & Simpson have been offered alternatives that are inferior to their curent locations, but neither have accepted yet.
On the other hand, the space enclosed between Grange and Third, south of Northern Avenue and north of Second Avenue would certainly improve their parking, if not provide room to expand the shopping centre itself.

Look at the amount of area on google earth. People won’t be interested in walking that far to goto DFO, IMO. I reckon it will be a step process that will ultimately see more non aviation tenants and factories in place.
Factories wouldn't make sense when that space is so suited to extending the DFO retail operation.

DFO in Mentone is so cheaply constructed. It's just one big concrete slab shelled by cheap walls and roofing. The car park asphalt is also the cheap stuff.
This thing brings consumers which attracts more businesses which brings more consumers which attracts more businesses etc, etc. The car park is always full, though not as chronic as Chadstone Shopping Centre which has much more parking.
Like Chadstone SC and DFO in Docklands, DFO Mentone should start expanding by building underground, but the easier, cheaper and greedier option is to simply aquire the land next door. I'm sure DFO Mentone is a cashcow and they have the money to expand it underground, but they appear to have met very little resistance with their current plans.

If the proposed plan does succeed and I have not heard of any legal challenge as yet; perhaps excess traffic would be able to use the satellite airfields close by?

On the other hand, Government is handing out big grants to other small regional airports such as Leongatha for example. (Which is great news by the way)

Airport privatisation.
The biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the Australian people.
None of these development sharks bought the airport leases ever intended to run an airport.
Almost all of them have subverted the Airport Act, their leases and in some cases safety and the environment.
They are putting up what appears to be a large structure at Bankstown approximately 1000 ft off the end of the
thresholds of the three main runways. Perfect targets for one of the most common aircraft mishaps.
Wonder who will carry cost of lawsuits if a BA146 or global express spears off the end of RW29?

Bear that in mind, just in case anyone was thinking of writing to a Labor MP to try and stop this, it was Keating's idea in the first place.
