Evans Head Airfield Access Gate Locked

Flew to Evans Head airfield on the weekend. For those that don't know it, it is a heritage airfield on the North Coast. Ex military with a very long bitumen strip and aviation museum that is well worth the visit if it re-opens again. Has a great fly-in each year. The access gate to the airfield is now locked, although no problems landing there of course. Not usually locked to my knowledge? Nobody around much.

The airfield occupies a very large flat area on the immediate outskirts of a growing North Coast town with roads/infrastucture in place so very attractive to developers. I would guess its about 70 hectares? It was recently sold. Richmond Council won't disclose the price or conditions of sale. Richmond Council does have form in this area. Same council that sold 120 Hectares of Casino aerdrome for $660 000 in a closed door deal according to this article: https://www.echonews.com.au/news/242...s-head/686094/

So although the price and conditions of sale arent being disclosed, the rumor is it was only $2.5 million which on the surface is very cheap. Doesn't take much deduction to understand why the sale wasnt open and why the price and conditions werent made more public. Certainly not modesty about such a great deal for rate payers i bet. The other rumour is that the conditions of sale were changed so that the heritage part of the airfield wouldnt be a problem much longer for developers. That part is rumor but if anyone has a few more facts that would be great because in the absence of any public information it looks shadey. Hell i would have found more than that for that bit of real estate.

So..locked gate...housing estate sold right at the edge of the taxiway. DOesnt look too good for the future of this airfield, Anyone know more? https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/p...head-202004578 .
