Coronavirus lockdown prompts outback roadhouse to fly beer& pizza to cattle stations

What a great idea! This is the entrepreneurial spirit that will get us out of this mess!

[The Dunmarra Wayside Inn, located 315 kilometres south of Katherine, is owned by pilot Gary Frost.

He said with most of the surrounding cattle stations now in lockdown, he had little choice but to take to the skies in a bid to keep the locals in high spirits.

"Nobody can go anywhere, they're limited to how they get their supplies and refreshments," Mr Frost said.
"So we thought we might do something to help them out a little bit.

"We make pizzas at Dunmarra roadhouse anyway, so we thought we would get all the pizzas together and see if they were interested, if we can fly them out, so they don't have to leave the properties."

Sure they don't need an AOC for that? And is their Cessna a recognised 'food transport vehicle'? And what about all that salmonella growing because the pizzas weren't kept at the right temperature? And those pizzas don't look like they're tied down and could become a hazard in turbulence...
^
All questions some autocrat in Cant-berra is lining up to ask, rather than just saying (like any normal person would...) "Good on ya, cobber, what a good idea to look after the folks on the stations!"

Great idea! Well worth the free publicity.

Will it be $30 for the pizza and $200 delivery cost?
Will they throw in a free roll of toilet paper with each delivery?

Great idea, lock down the cattle stations (huge risk of spreading the virus to every man woman & child in Sydney for Eg) then try to police it! Gotta luv the stupidity of our law makers!

The 'longest' pizza run in de whole wide world existed in de good ole days, when KU FS was in action.

Pizza delivery from KU to Wyndham.....get 'em while they're hot....well, warm anyway....they don't 'cool down' too much up there......

Cheers......

Helps if you read the linked article

With prices remaining the same as in-house orders
Mr Frost said he was also willing to throw a few extra toilet rolls in the back, if needed.

I reckon the cattle stations are locked down quite voluntarily. To keep COVID-19 out.

I'm guessing he's already getting paid for the trip under the mail contract? Why not take a Pizza along too. Good on him. Hope no one pays much attention to the middle photo where he breaks the social isolation rules though, Seems pointless them staying away from everyone if he goes out there and hugs them.

Yep, A guy flying 2 pizzas 100 km (at a self admitted financial loss) will save this country! That's the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that asks for government bail out after a while.

Great idea, lock down the cattle stations
and you would only need one Richard Cranium "escaping" from the bigsmoke to close down a complete station completely.

Aye but the toilet paper is still in critical short supply...
I am retraining as we type in the art of the bog roll manufacture and will soon launch a new on demand toiletry delivery company to rival FEDEX.

I welcome you all to the unveiling of... BOGEX

I'm thinking the middle image may be a happy snap from a previous time,- as he seems to have a different shirt & hat on.
Pizza boxes, and grog carton visible in the top image. A carton of stubbies would be barely enough to wash down the pizza between a couple of hungry and thirsty ringers.

I reckon it's the same shirt, and I doubt he flies with the cowboy hat on. Hard to get a headset over it.

I know of a few pilots in the bush who wear a baseball cap for flying, and keep a wide brimmed hat in the luggage locker for ground ops. Caps don't protect the ears or the back of the neck from sunburn.

Real outback pilots don’t wear headsets and they use a hand held mic.

Then when they get to my age they will need to wear hearing aids because they didn't protect their hearing when they were young.

Decent hearing protection wasn't about when I started. We used hand held mic's, and cockpit speakers. The noise was deafening, literally.

You folks were truly resilient back then. Every so often the rechargeable batteries of my A20 die on me in flight, a sign that I should replace them. I find it painful already without noise cancellation – and that's still with headset on!

I did my whole PPL using a hand mike and a crackling old overhead speaker full SAR Navs all during summer bouncing around in 35 deg heat! Could never afford a headset, was kinda normal back then 40+ years ago reading WAC charts, 1:60 calcs and a C150! Character building stuff-
Now I use a hard wired Telex, no battery issues and oh that peace -.
