Flying in Melbourne
Hi everybody,
I am a European private pilot here in Melbourne for a couple of months. I have already requested an ASIC and a COV to keep flying in Australia, but I would also really appreciate flying as a passenger with local pilots. It would be a good opportunity to train myself to australian flying procedures but also to meet new people.

Watch Stefan Drury's channel on the 'tube. It's quite entertaining and you can fly vicariously to see how it's done, or at least how Stefan does it
I watched his most recent video about leaning the SR22.
What I did notice was how little both he and MW the instructor were actually looking out the windscreen!
They were so engrossed in making the video and talking through the leaning process that they rarely take a moment to keep a good lookout.
I believe that Stevo1Kinevo got caught out for something similar in the USA with the FAA hitting him up for not maintaining a sterile cockpit.

Probably well over an hour's flight cut into 17 mins of which some fraction was a view of them actually in the cockpit - not really fair to suggest they had a bad lookout, but yeah, I guess it's a known issue with all those screens to look at, The whole idea of see-and-avoid is a bit of a farce really, IMO.

According to the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), the rule is legally applicable only to Part 121 (Scheduled Air Carriers) and Part 135 (Commercial Operators), and not to Part 91 (non-commercial general aviation).
The FAA didn’t have a leg to stand on when they went after him, and despite the grief they gave him, he had nothing to answer for!

Isn't the SR22 fitted with a TCAS anyway? True that this is no substitute for see-and-avoid and won't prevent a pilot from flying into IMC but it does offer some peace of mind when fine tuning the mixture in flight.
