Broome Air Services getting wound up?

As someone who has just started my CPL, I enjoy reading all of the GA / Top End / Low hour threads. I also like to keep an eye on what's happening up around the Kimberley as that's where I'm heading as soon as I get that fresh CPL.

I have however just stumbled on a Winding Up Order along with an Appointment of Creditors i.e. BAS looks like it's gone into Administration, with Aerohire as the plaintiff.

Can anyone shed any light in the situation? Is BAS done and dusted and if so, how will it likely affect the GA scene up there?

I don't know either way, but last week I definitely saw a few of their C210's for auction on the web. So maybe?

Yes BAS have finished, happened about 6 months ago.
I believe aviair took over the work and offered positions to most BAS pilots at the time.

Former BAS owner has hinterland and purchased a flying school in Cairns

Parts of BAS were sold to aviair with the agreement reached in mid feb this year, they didn't seem too interested in the BAS piston aircraft

As far as broome goes, King leos has been busy, the former owner of Kimberley Av has started a new company up there with one or 2 planes and last i heard Broome Aviation are still doing ok.

Aviair has a presence there but not sure what it entails.

I think Aerohire will be the least of his troubles.

Are there other suppliers that are owed money? Or troubles being the partnership...

Given the hours that the BAS fleet were doing vs the overheads and company upkeep. I would be surprised if they ever made a dollar on it! I heard there was a time that they were contracting pilots and refusing to pay super. But recently, most pilots have been full-time receiving the award.

Wouldn't surprise me. No doubt some creative accounting is being done to get out of it all. BAS didn't own all of their aircraft either. There was a subsidiary company that leased them to BAS, but run by the same people. So was the sale for the hangars, clients, AOC or aircraft? Given then aircraft were in a different business?

New owners of KLA. I think one of them comes with a tourism background while his partner was once a pilot, but then was managing the Aerocare in Broome. Previous owner of KLA was laughing when he sold it wishing the 2 guys luck. So hopefully the new owners give those tired airframes some love.

BAS never did the tours, just charter. So a good time for KLA to be up there with the piston fleet being sold.

Has an international background in hospitality, went to Broome initially for a pilot job having just completed multi instrument rating, but that didn't work out, so re-entered hospitality in Broome.
