Tigerair Recruitment

Tigerair is actively recruiting for First Officers on the A320 and have opened up assessment days late May and early June.

Browsing through PPRuNe there seems to be limited information from those working at the company regarding conditions apart from the latest pay dispute. Any current or former flight crew able to shed some light?

The company has offered 10 contracts to the FO's (SYD based only). They will start sim within the next 2 months.

More FO's will leave during the year due to personal goals and job security. One can always review the T&C's via the FWA website.

Won’t ramp up until the MAX arrives in 14 months then they get the hand me downs.

Anything is possible. JB is going, MM was pro Airbus in her previous gig.

Tiger Singapore is about to start upgrading its young A320 fleet to the neo’s and is looking to offload it’s fleet. Couldn’t be a better time to grab them.

Unhappy Recruitment Process

It beggars belief that this LCC chooses to conduct multiple and onerous testing procedures when this country is facing a shortfall of pilots. I understand that it may be appropriate for younger low hour pilots or even cadet pilots, but it is a real deterrent and a slap in the face to older seasoned veteran pilots with thousands of hours. Many a time I have spoken to these pilots who say they just couldn't be bothered being dragged through laborious testing & behavioral assessments as if they were 22 again.

For my mind an interview an on-line testing (or maybe a sim check) should suffice for vets with jet experience. Or is this a way for Tiger to surreptitiously weed out out any applications from older pilots in favour of younger pilots with minimal experience ? Appears quite evident to me. And same could be said for Qantas. Ageism is still alive and well in Australia aviation and most likely many other fields of professional employment.

I don't know of any airline that gives an older pilot the job without them first jumping through the same hoops as everybody else.
I would hope that the extra experience the older/wiser pilot has would make the process easier for them.

don,

The interview process has become such an HR-driven dog & pony show, I'd suggest the process is MORE difficult for the older pilots. The less one has interviewed over the decades, the more difficult it becomes.

It's a dark art.

Experience is not relevant and actually a negative in the present environment.
Don't spend money on aviation related material - spend it on psychobabble stuff as that will get your foor in the door.

The ability to put round pegs into square holes ie the modern psychobabble run by people who have no aviation background is king and clearly demonstrates how the HR cancer has emasculated flight crew management - they might be "managers" with a title on the door but have stuff all input into the department they are supposed to be managers of, certainly regards to recruitment.

Harder for oldies to adapt to the new (better - yeah, right!) approach or for those who view it for what it is - bull****.

Cheers.

Actually, a better spend of money would be on converting yourself to a minority group. Female is best.
