They've, ICAO, added a new type of approach procedure, so now there are 3 types:

Precicion approach procedure (PA)
PAR
ILS
GLS

Non-precision approach procedure (NPA)
NDB
NDB/DME
LNAV
LP
etc.

Approach procedure with vertical guidance (APV)
LNAV/VNAV
LPV

I have no clue why they added the APV procedures, and not just threw them under precision approach procedures?

Because they don't have the same precision as Precision Approaches. They thus have higher minimas and different survey requirements as well as different procedures.
