It’s great that PPRuNe D&G maintains its unblemished record of arseclowns investigating and determining the cause/s of an accident, before the pilot’s been buried.

Well done.

PPRuNe ceased being professional a long time ago. Twenty years ago when Danny Fyne ran it as a subscribed email service it was the domain of professional aviators. Then it become a BB, was sold and anyone could join. And join they did....

Nowadays PPrune is a go-to source for immediate alerting that something has occurred but within 24 hours the Monday-morning forensic keyboard "experts" and wannabees will have taken over, leaving the professional aviators to just look on in dismay. Occasionally there are insightful posts from people with real knowledge but 98% of the time it's just nonsense and sometimes downright disgraceful. Means PPrune is a go-to place for the first hour or so after an incident but then "get-the-heck-out-of-here"....

Discussing accidents and incidents is essential discussion amongst pilots and contributes to our collective safety awareness.

Discussing this in no way disrespects the pilot or his passengers
Agree 100%.

Whilst the name Cowan Creek sounds possibly narrow, in fact in most places it is a broad water. Were a Beaver pilot to lose power on take off, he/she would have several options rather than plough into me.

I would hope that the ATSB looks at whether the stall warning on the DHC Beaver has been fitted and the compressed nature of ASI makes it very difficult to highlight just how hard it is to read and understand the actual airspeed of the aircraft.
Add to that the fact that the piston engined aircraft has an engine of between 240hp and 300hp when the turbo propped engine pushes out 600hp.

A 250hp aeroplane is not an inherently worse performer than a 600hp aeroplane.
A fully loaded Caravan on floats with 675hp, is way underpowered. A 180hp Piper Cub feels like a rocket in comparison.

Does anyone know whether VH-NOO had
a. An FDR/CVR, or
b. A stall warning system?

I imagine neither.

Pics on news.com.au showing aircraft being lifted from the water. Floats were the first thing up.

Fly safe.

Play hard

Hello sky9
I was reading your post. It is clear that you have not flown a Beaver. It is clear that you do not even know basic info/specs. on the beaver. It is clear that you are not a professional pilot. I doubt you are a pilot.
Could I respectfully suggest that you read pprune to gain insight but refrain from posting. Leave it to the pros and enjoy the posts.
Cheers
Fred

Dear Fred . . . . . maybe there should be a PPRuNe system that can deal with posters who reveal their ignorance of the relevant facts, and are patently without credible experience, but launch into print anyway. Initially they should be cautioned. Then. . .. how about - "three strikes and you're out " ? . .. . Darce

p.s. you wouldn't be the Fred that crop-dusted with Ag Cats, by any chance?

I think some of you who are posting here should be ashamed of yourselves. Not only do you disrespect the deceased, you disrespect the profession. Reading some of the posts on this thread alone it is clear that many if in fact you fly at all barely have enough experience, competence or currency to fly a circuit without ****ting yourselves. Unfortunately as is usually the case on social media it is these invisible nobody's that have the most to say.

I thought I saw on TV that one of the floats had broken loose & came up. Also they said that one of the wings was almost detached from the aircraft.

wreck has been bought to the surface today.. State of the prop should rule out some conclusions..

From the published pics it looks like the engine mounts yielded with downward bending with some force from the port side.
The fuselage is not very distorted - even the starboard windshield and front door frames are basically intact.
The fuselage bottom skin is rippled but also looks intact.
Depending on seat failures and safety harness performance, the impact may well have been survivable for at least some on board.
Aeromarine what do you reckon?
