Light aircraft down near Bangalow

Weather not great at the moment; sounds as though it may have caught someone out. Nasty.

Hmm, couple of problems with that latter report, I can't find records of any Cessna Skyhook's active in Aus (ever!), Heck Field does not permit rotary flight ops and I suspect the several eye witnesses would have at least known the difference between a chopper and fixed wing.

So we have a Cessna Skyhawk and a Cessna Skyhook and both pilots were aged 71.

Flight originated YSPT, owner had a hangar there. C172 with 180hp engine. Speculation of locals near Ballina was that he was tracking the old highway.

Just rang Echonetdaily and explained that it was a Cessna Skyhawk & not a Skyhook.
Hopefully they will change the story to suit and send the reporter to flight school.

Must be a member of that tottering edifice, the Fourth Estate. For those that can't work it out for themselves, bs factoids being spouted in stories mean that all other facts also get called into question - in this story and those where I don't have a working knowledge of the activity or industry concerned.

Edit: Rego released, https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications...r/ao-2017-061/

This was reported on radio news as two separate aircraft. The point I was trying to make was that there is only one aircraft involved.

It looks like the product of an illicit love affair between a C172 & a R22!

Still, not as bad as a news report many years ago in the US, "Four engined Cessna 150 with forty people on board", was in fact a Twin Otter.
