Dubbo

Word is someone came unstuck in the crosswind at Dubbo, aircraft burnt out but no injuries. Let's hope the last part at least is accurate!

Couple of photos now added to the updated report referred to above now, looks like a Cub of some description and she is well toasted!

Mr Piper may be surprised to hear that it was his aeroplane. American Legend AL-3 I'm told. Instructor has posted elsewhere, gist of it being that they had lifted off when they got smacked by something, willy-willy is mentioned as a possibility, but he didn't see anything, although on the nice green airfield they have for once that's not entirely surprising. Fortunately they were in a state to evacuate PDQ and just as well because fire started immediately and was pretty fierce in short order.

The fire occurrence after relatively minor bingles in Supercubs is well documented and has led, I believe, to several lawsuits. The header tank for the left tank is crosswise behind the panel close to the firewall and easily fractured in an incident involving engine mount firewall damage.

Sorry about the Cub but, if Dan reads this, I'm looking for a Scott tail wheel.
