Flight Review with a copy of the license
Hello! Sorry for the long post.
I'm a resident of Hong Kong with an Australian PPL License. I received my PPL(A) about two years ago and now needed a Flight Review by June. Unfortunately I left my Flight License in the U.S. (since I do fly in the U.S. with a Foreign Pilot's License), can I still do a Flight Review knowing that I only have copies of my Flight License? I tried to search about this on CASA's official website but found no answers.
I do have the official medical certificate with me since it was mailed to Hong Kong instead of to the U.S.. I would think that isn't a problem since I would be flying with a flight instructor anyways but since I'm not sure I like to see your opinions.

Get CASA to email you a copy. It was a couple of years ago but in a similar situation CASA emailed a copy with a letter stating that it was valid for use for 30 days without the original (hard copy/signed). I completed the Flight Review for the person based on that.

I would just get the instructor to write up the FR on your licence copy. He will also send a FR form to CASA. Give it a couple of weeks and then apply for a reprint of your licence from CASA and it will have the latest FR on it.

As far as I can tell CASA accept copies of licences, it is all I carry and I believe even a digital copy will suffice for a ramp check but be aware, I can't be bothered reading legislation regarding this so the opinion is only that!

It would be dangerously irresponsible to fly with a mere copy of your licence rather than the original. The original has magical properties that affect your competence and the airworthiness of the aircraft in which you fly. Copies don't have that magical effect.
I'm doubtful that your medical certificate is valid. You are clearly crazy for even entertaining the possibility.

I agree lead, CAsA is so paranoid about us criminals they are extending their reach outside OZ. One poor bloke who is required to do a check a month to maintain his income, three of which must be at OS facilities because Australia seems incapable of assessing standards here in the modern Part 61 world. Twenty eight forms to fill in each time he travels OS, the FAA check airmen joked about it at first, now they have a resident Physio to alleve the their RSI. All these forms require a notary to certify them true copies, including all the FAA approvals for the sim's and examiners. My mate said at his last check a CAsA delegate had just completed his type rating to be the next CAsA "Expert" in the same sim with the same check airman. He required certified copies, CAsA dude, well of course he's the Man from CAsA beyond reproach. So there you go folks, an outfit regarded as the best in the world for training, CAsA considers as shonks, beware.
God its getting embarrassing, I tell them I'm a Kiwi now when I travel for training.
